Beautiful landscape photo of emblematic Catalan mountain of Montserrat, almond in bloom as they are these days across the Peninsula. It was taken on 12 February 1938 by British ambulance driver Alec Wainman who took hundreds of photos during Spanish Civil War - collected in book Live Souls.

More revelations about the loathsome Mandelson, who once famously said:

"We are intensely relaxed about people getting filthy rich as long as they pay their taxes."
NEW: Previously unreported Epstein emails show Peter Mandelson discussing a Panama-linked tax avoidance structure for a £750k Rio apartment - with Epstein as his "chief life adviser".

"“’KPop Demon Hunters’ is a US-made project that incorporates Korean elements. Musically, it follows American pop conventions, and the structure — with Ejae as a lead vocalist rather than a traditional idol group dynamic — is not particularly K-pop-like.”"
The soundtrack from ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ delivers K-pop’s first Grammy win, but opens debate over what the milestone truly represents

We ran the numbers last year w @kiel.institute. The essence won’t have changed much: Even if the EU concluded dozens of new agreements and deepen existing ones, this would only add about 0.6 percent of GDP over five years. Could be a bit more with (even more) generous assumptions, but not a lot.

Big weeks for EU trade – MERCOSUR signed but in a limbo, India concluded, deepening with Mexico waiting to be signed, more in the pipeline. It’s also a good moment to look at the bigger picture: More trade agreements are worth doing in a power-based world, but they’re no game changer for EU growth.🧵

"Between 2023 and 2024, the share of goods traded between member states—so-called intra-EU trade—fell from 23.5% to 22%. The share for services remained broadly flat at 7.9%".

What is happening in Minneapolis stands in contrast to the idea of Trumpism’s irresistible power.

It should be a reminder: Being lawless, immoral, and violent does not make the Trumpists omnipotent. Obscuring that distinction is an act of defeatism that only serves the regime.
The Trumpists will continue to escalate. But in Minneapolis, we can see the limits of MAGA’s assault.

Trump’s authoritarian desires are limitless. But his ability to impose them on America is not.

My new piece for @zeit.de - and some thoughts, since it is in German (gift link):
US-Regierung: Wie der Widerstand gegen Maga eine Chance hat
Der Minneapolis-Moment offenbart die Schwächen der Trumpisten. Und er zeigt, wo der Widerstand gegen den US-Präsidenten in Zukunft erfolgreich ansetzen kann.

Just left an ICE Protest in Portland OR that started at City Hall and marched to the ICE building. Main demand was "revoke" the lease that lets the agency use their building.

Crowd was 500-1000. They gassed massively after about an hour. Had to pull a lot of 16-17 year old girls out of the gas.

Inside a multi-village settler-soldier pogrom in Masafer Yatta
As settlers set homes ablaze and looted livestock across three villages for over five hours, Israeli soldiers blocked ambulances, arrested victims, and even took part in beatings. This is how it unfolded.

Trevor Noah was probably the best show last night.
Trump: “Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight. It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope and suing him for plenty$. Ask Little George Slopadopolus how that all worked out. Also ask CBS! Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!”

Moltbook seems to have "broken through" to a wider non-AI audience

A good chance to explain the real present (this time, Moltbook was mostly roleplaying by people & agents, not "real") & the risks for the future (independent AI agents coordinating in weird ways can spiral out of control, fast)
