I’d go even farther and say if we’re seeing the beginnings of a coordinated effort to engineer a sharp appreciation in Asian currencies, we could be on the verge of a tectonic move in global markets. Note that the dollar, yen, and mark moved by 20-30% during the first Plaza Accord. Very big story.
This seems interesting on 2 fronts. First it looks like an attempt to liberate Japan’s PM from being seen by markets as Truss redux. Secondly it could ease objections in Beijing to allowing a faster RMB appreciation and allowing dollar Asia to continue what the euro started last year

24/7 1 GW Solar!

UAE broke ground on a 5.2 GWdc PV facility paired with 19 GWh of battery storage in Abu Dhabi in October 2025.

It’s world’s first GW-scale renewable project, engineered to deliver 1 GW of continuous, around-the-clock baseload power.

Tomemos nota.
Trump: "Based upon a very productive meeting I had with Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one... Based upon this understanding, I will not be imposing the Tariffs"

1. This short thread is about the issue that dominates almost every aspect of politics, and causes or exacerbates most of our problems: the extreme wealth of a small number of people. Here’s the amazing thing: almost the entire political class aligns with the ultra-rich against the rest. 🧵1/10

One bonus, heretical thought: if you’re interested in a topic, a long essay can be more informative than a (non-fiction) book.
There is a silly publishing convention that a "serious" book needs to be 300 pages++. The result is tomes that are mostly filler.
Might the 5,000-word New Yorker be better?

This is still true after the EP vote for an ECJ opinion on Mercosur: strong external momentum, extremely fragile internal base. Stuff like this makes the whole 'reliable partner in a world of chaos' rhetoric ring hollow. EU can't get geoeconomics right if people keep playing political games with it.
On the other side, the internal face of trade policy has not been able to keep up. Farming interests were always going to play an outsized role in the debate due to their ability to organise – but their dominance in the public debate shows how little energy others invested in shaping this debate.
