Better known to us as one half of literary partnership Somerville & Ross. A trained artist too. She was good wasn’t she!
Today we’re spotlighting A Holy Place of the Druids or Grave of a Chieftain.

Edith Somerville employs a limited colour palette for this undated work of Drombeg Stone Circle. Also known as ‘The Druid’s Altar’, Drombeg is oriented towards the setting sun on the Winter Solstice.

All interested pharmacies must sign up to the service by 1 December and must deliver the service to the public by 31 March 2026.

Georgia at Mayo Dark Skies/Dark Sky Ireland taught me so much about this when I worked in tourism, and about the negative effects of light pollution on our ecosystem, some of which I'd never have imagined - and what we can individually do.

Some great resources here: www.darksky.ie
Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

The Irish fossil fuel industry welcoming a politician on board as their paid lobbyist.

Until recently he was Fine Gael's spokesman on Climate Action.

In many democracies this wouldn't even be legal, let alone acceptable.

Judicial reviews are very often the last resort local communities have in defending nature against greedy corporate interests + rotten planning.

The gov. wants to undermine that via false blame for the housing crisis, etc.

Judicial reviews serve the common good
Rather than castigating public-spirited ordinary people concerned by planning problems, the Government should focus on properly resourcing the planning and legal systems

For 'simplification' read 'deregulation' + for 'deregulation' read removing all the rules that protect us from polluted air, water, soil, + just relying on those fine chaps at the corporations to do the right thing out of the goodness of their hearts
🗳️ @europarl.europa.eu has voted to 'simplify' corporate sustainability reporting and due diligence.

Sounds technical but it's bad news.

Diluting rules designed to keep big business honest about its impact on people and planet will make it harder for consumers to invest their money sustainably.

Fuck racist pols, scapegoating immigrants for problems actively created by government policies.
As an honorary Clare man (aka blow-in), I second Rob's call that the people of Clare deserve better leadership.

Clare has a strong history of welcoming immigrants, be they intercounty like myself, Northerners escaping the troubles, or of Indian, Asian, or African descent, or from anywhere else.

My letter in today's Clare Champion calling out the xenophobic dog-whistling from our local TD, Timmy Dooley, as well as Sinn Féin's Matt Carthy.
Immigrants are not the reason I've struggled to retain housing or buy my own home - Government policies are. Landlords like Timmy Dooley are. #Spéirgorm

It's Jean Seberg's birthday.

For those who don't know, Seberg supported Black and Native American civil rights in the 1960s, and because of this the FBI stalked and harassed her, got her blacklisted in Hollywood, and probably helped drive her to an early death.
