Public History PhD. Historian of Modern Ireland. Material Culture. Attempting to positively contribute to the field. Speaking only for myself. she/her
It’s the first Fall in about 30 years that I’m not preparing to “head back to school” in some capacity. Lots of mixed emotions that I’m sure will be fun to work through. 🥸

Sending all my good energy to the folks heading back to the classroom!

Public servants, historians, and frontline interpreters are trained professionals who do everything in their power to connect visitors with the stories which make up our complicated national fabric. Yet we are consistently in the crosshairs of those who are waging war on history and intellectualism.

Just like in the parks, safety comes first.
- Stay with your group
- Follow the signs (or in this case, the facts)
- Leave no one behind
- Document everything
- Don’t engage alone

Almost a year after a brilliant research trip to Belfast, conducting oral histories with folks who were so generous with their time and story, and a major job change I think I’m ready to start writing again.

Making ChatGPT free during finals, refusing to put watermarks on ChatGPT output, he knows students use it to cheat, not learn, but he doesn't care.
Sam Altman describes ChatGPT as merely “a calculator for words”

the man responsible for destroying education doesn't understand writing, thinking, or math, although, to be fair, he certainly does understand capital

I have no idea how the AHA membership breaks down on this issue but I will say that refusing to adopt a position specifically because you fear the wrath of a political party is not “staying apolitical,” it is making an explicitly political calculation and basing your organization’s position on that.
#aha25 business meeting - Jim Grossman says that the organization needs to stay apolitical in order to have "legitimacy." Surely unrelated to the upcoming view on a resolution against scholasticide in Gaza. *Eyeroll*
