I am very happy this article is out [OA to come]. It builds on work by scholars like @matthewjkelly.bsky.social, Paul Townend, Michael de Nie, @alanlester.bsky.social (and others) to suggest that Irish nationalism had something important to say about the British Empire in the 1830s and 1840s. 🗃️
Nice to see some color in the sky after such a miserably wet day.

Stephen Colbert is such a gift in the current political moment, where he is able to deftly skewer the power of tv networks, giant corporations, and corrupt politicians with a genuine smile on his face.
The Late Show | Stephen goes on the record about his interview with Texas State Rep. James Talarico, the FCC’s “equal time” rule, and today’s statement... | Instagram

Having looked at the state of the house, I’m in genuine disbelief that we will be moving in 10 days from now 😬😬😬

A lot of this article from @polphilpod.bsky.social was striking (shorturl.at/yScS4), but especially his point that centrists have blamed the left without granting them ability to set agenda.

That is no longer tenable because the “libs” have been right over and over again on Trump and fascism.

I don’t know who needs to hear Jesse Jackson leading the kids on Sesame Street in this beautiful call-and-response reminding them that every child is somebody, but here it is

Sometimes I think - man, wish we could have bought in our neighborhood so Aubrey could have stayed with her friends.

Then I see this, and realize (again) just how insane this housing market is.

This house - a few doors away - at 124m2 had asking of €650,000 and is sale agreed at €770,000!

Thanks for having me! It was great to hear so many different perspectives on violence from graduate students.
A huge thank you to Jay Roszman (UCC), who delivered the keynote at this year's #Comhfhios, titled "The Problem of Meaning: 'Outrages' & Violence in Pre-Famine Ireland"

An amazing lecture to end a captivating day of research on violence and its legacies in Ireland!

Do I miss the negative temperatures, bitter wind chill, and lots of snow in Boston? Maybe not…but there is something a bit miserable about returning to a sunless sky, the grayest soupy clouds, and misting rain.

TIL there is a monument to the Irish Famine in Cambridge Common, sculpted by the Derry born artist, Maurice Harron. No surprise it was unveiled in 1997, during the Celtic Tiger boom times.

One of the absolute smartest people I know whose scholarship will force us to rethink how we teach the Famine in all its complexities. UL made an excellent inaugural selection. Congratulations, Pete!

I wonder if Roy Foster would like to know that his two-volume biography of Yeats just figured on a Jeopardy tournament of champions question.
