Rabbit holes:
Reading a sad and bananas story of inheritance case where in order to acquire an estate in Clonakilty a childless couple living in Bristol seized the son of a unmarried servant who was pregnant. The couple promised an annuity to the mother but then never paid it and were sued.

O'Connell:
Broke: Talking about his love for Queen Victoria
Woke: Talking shite about Feargus O'Connor and the Charists
Bespoke: Telling a bunch of people in Bandon about how great it was that Irish soldiers – especially a Kerryman! – suppressed the Newport rising.

O'Connell was oddly proud of Irishmen putting down the Newport rising in 1839.

TIL: Bandon was jokingly referred to as 'Southern Derry' in the 1830s given the prominence of Orangeism and its former walls from the Munster Plantation.

I am reading a (very good) article and it has used to the word 'essay' as a verb twice and ...I've never seen the word 'essay' as a verb.

I was not prepared for how expensive a wood/pellet burning stove is to buy and fit. I imagine this will be a reoccurring feeling: 😮

Lord Shannon received £15,000 as compensation for loss of rotten borough of Clonakilty following the Act of Union.
£15,000 = ~£1.7 million in today's money. That doesn't seem like **that** much relative to the money thrown around in politics. How do we account for purchasing power? 🗃️

An alumnus: "My dear University, please accept these 200 bladder stones from various patients across India. I removed them myself!"

University: "Ah yes, thank you - a fine collection, if we do say so ourselves!"

I know nothing about wine and maybe I’ve been had, but I think this is the most pleasing €12 bottle of wine I’ve ever had (purchased at Aldi).

Thoroughly perplexed by Senate Dems and rather depressed that this is the outcome after such an overwhelming repudiation of the GOP and Trump last week.

A petition presented to parliament in August 1835, of a parish priest calling out a voter from the pulpit for selling their vote, and entreating the parish not to do any business with him (aka - a boycott).
Of course, knew this practice happened regularly, but never seen a petition about it. 🗃️

The voice of the people should never cease on the subject...
