Noone could claim I'm not invested in fiction (chairing Booker this year). But non-fiction is getting a bit short-changed, I think, in this UK "year of reading". For some, it's always been non fiction (glimpses of other worlds, other ways of thinking) that started the reading vibe.

After being held in two of them as a boy, I fought for decades urging America to never again build concentration camps and put human beings in them. It breaks my heart to watch this happen twice now in my own lifetime.

I’ve just written a story on this very theme, will air on Radio4 in April.
(Yes, mainly putting this here so it’s clear I didn’t plagiarise…!)
“War. War. War. Someone’s dog wearing a birthday hat. War. War. War. Kylie Jenner’s dress at the Golden Globes. ...This is how memory is organised online: not as lived experience, but as a flicker of unrelated images flattened into the same scroll...Everything adjacent. Everything equally temporary.”

Q: Do you believe Kristi Noem has committed impeachable acts?

Rep. Khanna: Absolutely, she needs to go. She's presided over agents who are killing American citizens, who are overreaching in violating the Bill of Rights.

I'm gobsmacked. Who the fuck is going to go see this on Parnell St in Dublin?? Two or three screenings a day.
This can't be a normal commercial decision surely? It's distributed by Amazon, are they paying the cinemas to show it or something?

"Richard Curtis has even called it “one of the greatest British films of all time” - quite the accolade." (BBC)
hurray hurray hurray - my film of the year last year, #TheBalladOfWallisIsland, has been nominated for 3 Baftas @bafta.org: Outstanding British Film; Best Adapted Screenplay. Best Supporting Actress.

If you haven't seen this film, it's such a treat. Gorgeous, moving, and laugh out loud.
