The responses to this entirely reasonable thread from Osita are downright deranged. “I hate Trump” is not the first principle of everything.
More than an attempted coup, where a mob tried to seize Congress on live television did? There's not going to be an implosion about anything. It's either a slow slide towards oblivion where everything gets incrementally worse as people try to live normally, or a slow grind in the opposite direction.
i feel like if the president actually went through with invading greenland, it would implode America

We're losing good councilmembers to this problem. It tends to keep it as a busy box for the already independently wealthy, and that makes for a host of perverse incentives, not the least of which is people running to secure their own existing business interests.
3 of the 6 sitting Lexington Council members not running again cited the role's pay - $41k - as at least reason to not seek reelection.

Here's a piece where I asked several electeds how they think the role's pay affects who gets to serve and how they can serve.

Lexington council members cite pay while opting out of reelection. Should it increase?
Three council members are not seeking reelection due in part to pay. They earn less than the average salary in Lexington.

They stole and sold the kid’s phone to a vending machine! This is just banditry.
This is 10th-grader Arnoldo Bazan.

A citizen.

Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.

"We're from the United States bro!' he screamed.

Agents took and sold his phone

And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

"Congress" as described by civics classes, law professors, Democrats, and libertarians — an independent branch capable of executing designated responsibilities irrespective of the partisan balance of power — does not exist. It is a fiction. Every time these things happen, more Americans see that.

"Maduro is a brutal authoritarian dictator," I wisely intone, as the corrupt demented paedophile US President violating Constitutional Law while operating a gestapo and concentration camps illegally arrests a foreign leader on charges which read like they were written on a paper placemat in crayon.

Remember that the US *does not care* about the people of Venezuela. It is not about "narcotrafficking", or "democracy", or whatever propaganda they have going. It is *explicitly* about US control over oil, capital accumulation, and geopolitical power.
