This is objectively untrue. Shutdown starts Jan 30. That doesn't change w/o Dem votes. Nor any non-reconciliation legislation. Also other kinds of obstruction and forcing votes.

The minority party is not completely powerless, esp. in the Senate. If they pretend to be, that is a choice, not reality.
They don't have any power to do anything. They have none. Zero. Zilch. Everything else is virtue signaling. It's futile gestures.

My position on impeachment is the same as it was six months ago: Impeachment is first about driving public attention to Trump’s crimes and corruption.

Democrats should introduce impeachment articles and force votes to boost their parallel media effort.

Performative public investigations matter.
Why push for impeachment?

Because politics is an exercise in moving public opinion as much as counting votes in the senate.

The Jan 6 Hearings were not a criminal proceeding against Trump that would end in jail, but they focused public attention.

People asking me "Well what are the Democrats SUPPOSED to do in opposition?"

They can try opposition. For a start.
Some Democrats hate that their party is largely positioning itself in opposition to the operation that resulted in Maduro's capture.

"Everything Trump touches must be bad according to the base," one House Dem told @axios.com

Said another: "It looks weak." www.axios.com/2026/01/04/m...

Leadership teams at the New York Times and Washington Post are captured. If you want to stop fascist military aggression in 2026, you can't go to accommodationist or outright fascist press.

Better off taking your information to ProPublica, Marisa Kabas or some other independent outfit.
Imagine being the person brave enough to leak this in the hopes that media attention could stop it and then the media just……buries it.

This right here:

“Not introducing articles of impeachment is a message that Trump hasn't committed impeachable offenses.”
How are voters meant to understand how serious things are if in lieu of shouting fire AND going into building with hoses, you're simply posting fire safety suggestions on social media?

The hack Trump has discovered is that if you escalate endlessly, at some point Democrats will stop escalating their response to you, because they’re scared of acknowledging what you are and what it obligates them to do. At that point you have total freedom to break any rule, do anything you want.
Such a stupid response. Trump is breaking the law. Again. For th 100th time. Schumer is making this sound like a policy difference, thus legitimizing it.

A concept I've been meaning to float to make sense of what's happened to the US Constitution is an idea from the British constitutional tradition: "implied repeal."

It's useful because it helps us to understand that Article I, & much else of the US Constitution, has been implicitly repealed.

Nobody understood the role Twitter played in shaping the mental universe of the people in power. It was surrendered with a shrug. Unforgivable
The case of the Twitter purchase shows the bad media strategy from Biden-era top Democrats.

They were “indifferent” to a far-right billionaire oligarch buying a key element of our information infrastructure.

Why The White House isn’t stressed about Elon Musk’s Twitter
Biden’s team has never cared much about the platform and isn’t about to start now.

i’m reminded of the famous line from the 2022 horror film Speak No Evil where the victims ask their assailants why they are doing this and the unhinged response:

“Because you let me”
If you let him get away with this, he’ll do it with Iran and whatever other neocon bugaboos have been lingering around conservative media since Obama first started running. Maybe Greenland but less intense because white. One of them will invariably respond in the mainland U.S. Stop him before then.

yes. has been the pattern since his first term but especially starting in the 2024 campaign. as the real trump falters, they hurriedly cut away and replace him in their reporting and discussions with a fictional trump who says and does more reasonable things than the actual man does
This is the wild part about the whole Trump experience, even when he says politically disastrous things, reporters rush in to fill in the blanks and steelman his arguments. As soon as they cut away from him saying “we’ll run it,” they cut to someone saying “obviously he didn't mean that.”

I am a broken record but: this will require Supreme Court reform. There is no chance the John Roberts Six allow prosecutions of Trump officials to stand.

Special prosecutors on day 1. Everyone in this administration who broke laws— including every ICE agent who ever kidnapped anyone— must go to prison. All of Epstein’s buddies prosecuted too, Democrat or Republican doesn’t matter.

Has to be this way or this country won’t survive.
No but really my fear is that the next democrat in the White House will be conciliatory and deliberate when what we need is a chainsaw and some sage.

The entire reason they’re locked is to prevent weird freaks like this who have no right to be there from marching in and endangering the kids.
CNN: “Surely you don’t think a daycare should be unlocked.”

SHIRLEY: “There should be a reception area.”

CNN: “No, every day care is locked.”

SHIRLEY: “Fair point.” 🤔

He shows up to a day care with masked men and wonders why they don’t let him in.
