if you're lucky enough to be a homeowner, can't recommend enough biting the bullet and going for the heat pump. just got mine installed last week. it's marvelous.

I say this sincerely: this makes the city worse. Infuriating.
Well, PBOT got what they wanted and the street seating at Taqueria Los Puñales has been removed. But at least we have two extra parking spaces on Belmont.

A whale caught in crab nets is fighting for her life on the Oregon Coast near Yachats, with so many people rushing there before official help arrives at dawn. The whale is vocalizing distress, asking for help. It's devastating. We have to find a way to stop entanglements. Unconscionable.

Portland’s Mayor, much of City Council, and many Portlanders spent recent days aligning themselves directly with Trump’s policies towards our precariously housed and homeless neighbors, while rabidly promoting a local extension of it.

It’s been utterly disgraceful and profoundly disappointing.
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

takes a very particular form of audacity to propose to redirect funding from the nation's greatest example of a municipal green new deal - a program approved by 65% of the city's voters! - and use that money to instead hire four hundred more cops

Pair this with the recent firing of the Housing Bureau director, an international expert on social housing. It seems the mayor wants to abandon the mission of the housing bureau in favor of recreating the services that the County is supposed to be offering.

Are you surprised? I'm not. Ending unsheltered homelessness is very different than ending VISIBLE unsheltered homelessness downtown.

The Mayor isn't solving a problem, he's forcing the problem into the neighborhoods that are already suffering the most.

People are choosing real alternatives instead of continuity. Mamdani stands for an antifascist economics in the name of the many. 🧵
