Catherine my good bitch you guys are the only ones who do not know where the Republicans stand
Steve Inskeep: You think the Republicans voting with you here will not only agree to these measures, but actually try to do something if the administration ignores them?

Sen Cortez Masto: If they go back on their word, then the American public will know where the Republicans stand.

Finished reading @juliagaffield.bsky.social 's biography of Jeans-Jaques Dessalines, one of the founding fathers of Haiti. The book is a story of what Dessalines did versus the way he has been sometimes inaccurately portrayed for political reasons as a bloodthirsty unthinking man unfit to rule. 1/

If the War on Terror were Orwell's Animal Farm, today we come to the last page.
Al-Qaeda in Syria's Ex-Commander Enlists in The War on Terror
They always said al-Qaeda would one day make its way to the White House. Turns out it's not for a suicide bombing but a handshake

A wonderful paper for non-economists (and economists):"..under the neoliberal macroeconomic model, wage bargaining is decentralised, and limiting economic growth is the main tool for managing distributional conflicts"

Feels like a good time to revive this for the newcomers
Feeling spicy might delete but I used to work with Chuck Schumer's eldest daughter, and when she was getting ready to go to Yale Law she was dissatisfied with her financial aid package so she made them do a three way call (at the office) with her and her dad to push for a better package

Schumer said the Dems will "keep fighting". Keep fighting their own voters? Keep fighting off effectiveness? Keep fighting being held accountable for anything? As far as I can tell the Democratic leadership is good at one thing only now, which is sending fundraising messages to my phone.

Nice thread❤️
So this word ლეკვი leḳvi puppy ultimately is connected not only to more familiar words like English wolf, Latin lupus, and Russian волк, it is also indirectly related to the name of Georgia itself.

People shouldn't forget that the first domino setting off tonight's capitulation came from the American Federation of Government Employees two weeks ago

Millions of American workers are now going to lose their health care

What ever happened to solidarity?

Yes (and his goons in Chicago/Broadview have forbidden praying), and one of these days, at a time and place of their choosing, we are going to hear a great response from the opposition party. You know, once they get their messaging together and all that. It's a process
Trump is starving people, sabotaging air travel, and taking away healthcare.
NEW: The Trump admin told states it must immediately "undo" the work to provide full food stamp benefits, or face penalties. The feds sent this in a late-night memo, only adding to the chaos and confusion around SNAP. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/b...

Doing it 'quietly' is so great
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

2 stroke engines are very low hanging fruit. They pollute much more than cars, also are outrageous noise pollution, and they're completely optional! Paying your patronage workers to do nothing would be better. Why US/EU have not gotten rid of these evil little bastards is baffling to me.

Ha ha, yes, but then they gave up on the deportation planes and spent $200 million on two jets for themselves. Who needs planes? They'll just build camps.
The WSJ on how unbelievably stupid Noem and Lewandowski are.

I don’t care that I’m late to this; it’s to good to pass up.

detroit's ubiquitous u-buy-we-fry fish markets are a dodge around this, and i love them for it
Most people don’t know that with SNAP you are banned from buying “foods that are hot at the point of sale”. So even if you have SNAP (which people don’t now) you can’t get cooked food. Which means you need to also actually have the resources to PREPARE a “healthy” meal.
Thinking about the social stigma against eating fast food in a country where poor people are being starved by the govt, the cost of groceries and fresh vegetables are astronomical, and a cheeseburger at McDonald’s costs $3.50.

“Clean” and “healthy” eating rhetoric is racist, ableist, and classist.
