International development stuff, travel stuff, 90s music stuff, RADwood-era car stuff. Seldom post but diligently read everything you post, swearsies
iOS' Liquid Glass continues to give me strong OS X "Aqua" vibes. Like we've speedrun '80s and '90s nostalgia only to settle down and build a house in the aughts

Honestly the wildest thing about r/NewTubers, the subreddit for aspiring YouTubers, is how many posts are like "okay, I've built my channel, registered for AdSense, downloaded CapCut, built a library of memes, and now I just need to decide what to make videos about."

One of the things about the destruction of the middle class is that it’s created an expectation for a lot of people where you either have to be a multimillionaire or consider yourself a failure and that means that 99.9999% of people who fall into that are going to lose their minds

Just saying if Siri were a person I'd dump them for their shockingly poor vocabulary

I've never seen a single frame of Murder, She Wrote but I will religiously watch every minute of @pushinguproses.bsky.social series *about* Murder, She Wrote until the stars fall from the sky
GOOD MORNING. WAKE UP. New Murder, She Wrote video just dropped! So this episode wasn’t the strongest, but Ethan Embry is in it. And IRV TRIPPLEDINGER. How can one resist? youtu.be/yvEZ-O8OP7U?... Please consider commenting and reposting so more people can experience this unhinged show.

The formative political event for my generation was not actually (only) 9/11. It was Florida 2000. We learned that we, as a country, were perfectly fine with not counting everyone's votes, that the institutions (esp. SCOTUS) were not going to save us, & that one party didn't believe in democracy.
Normal, mainstream, pro-democracy political parties do not make restricting suffrage the central pillar of their policy platform.

My entire adult life has been one long episode of the Republican Party trying to keep people's votes from being counted. It's obscene. We shouldn't tolerate it anymore.
The Georgia GOP sued Fulton County (Atlanta+) last night for keeping some election offices open this weekend to accept hand-returned absentee ballots. They claimed this was illegal, though it clearly isn't, and the case has already been tossed. Video of today's hearing below! (h/t Stephen Fowler)

No one is a liberal or a conservative in this election

Either you are an American voting for the continuity of the American project under its constitution,

Or you want to burn it to the ground.

I believe in America, what we stand for in the world, and the darkness without us

This is basically how we got Milton Friedman, how we got Ronald Reagan, and how we got the up-by-your-own-bootstraps, winner-take-all, profits-over-people economy that's leaving so many Americans (and especially women and moms) still struggling today.

Let me explain... 🧵 1/

it’s truly astounding to be periodically reminded that huge numbers of people have voted for that fucking creature and will do so again
One of those weeks where I'm just in disbelief that this election will be a nail-biter. Trump is so manifestly unfit for any office that I cannot imagine voting for him if you're paying attention at all. There's no case for him that doesn't come from a place of hate & resentment

If you’re a white teenage boy who travels across state lines to gun down two BLM protesters in Kenosha, that’s justifiable homicide and you get to walk free

If you’re a black teenage girl who finally kills the man who’s been sex trafficking you in Kenosha, you’ll get sent to jail for 11 years.

I want to tag in on this long but fruitful thread to talk a little bit about the social construction of reality and the role that in-group consensus plays in determining what people understand to be true. 1/x
Here's an analogy that perhaps captures the predicament the NYTimes finds itself in (and is navigating poorly). Let's say there's been a 40+ year effort on the part of flat earthers to take over the field of geography. They have their own publications, a growing stable of "public intellectuals"....
It's not surprising, but still incredibly disappointing, that an institution like the New York Times would so consistently choose to present the world not as it is, but as Donald Trump wants it to be.

We can talk about Dem’s failure on political comms since, oh, forever, but the fact they haven’t specifically tried to make every voter in America intimately familiar with the details of narcissistic personality disorder (as part of a broader behavior change communication campaign) is mind-boggling
