What you need to do is have them not be the protagonist at all, but the person who *helps* the protagonist. Sherlock Holmes is never the one to whom the interesting thing happens, he's the one who investigates interesting things happening to others.

Bond discourse has taken over Bluesky.
We believe this is being pushed by one person, with an agenda not yet clear.
007, we need you to find out who this is, what their goals are, and if necessary, neutralize them. Speak with Q for your equipment needs; you're flying to Cairo in the morning.

Ian Fleming killed off James Bond at the end of the fifth novel, From Russia With Love, and then starts the next one with “Phew, that last case was a bit much, I had to spend a few days in bed, anyway back to work…”
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”
Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:
“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Remember, when journalists just let trans people live their lives in peace, it’s “ideological capture”, but when they use their own personal anti-trans beliefs to lead a campaign to close down the only place in the country trans youth received healthcare, it’s absolutely fine, nothing to see here.

I remember trying to watch this decades ago, possibly on VHS, and it was just really muddy and uneven and hard to follow, which has been hard to reconcile with recent re-evaluations. Wonder if it's streaming anywhere...
Last night’s film, OUTLAND (1981). In the period between Bond & his late 1980s renaissance as older sex symbol, Sean Connery did some really Interesting films. Solid mix of low-fi SF, western & bad town noir. Could argue Connery at his best when he wasn’t firm in his footing, as seems the case here

Not to be victim blaming, but I'd like to think that if I were working for the BBC, I would try not to hand the opposition a loaded gun by editing a speech by our most high-profile opponent...
And yet, I'd also hope there were stronger editorial protections in place.

This is seriously where we are. Slurs, misinformation and hate speech as a ‘neutral’ position.
Love that anything that doesnt call me slurs or advocates for me to be pushed out of society as unwanted scum now counts as unduly biased

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Some of the books I loved as a teen have really not held up, while others did and are clearly excellent.
But there were books I was also just not ready to read, and my opinions on them were a waste of space.

The BBC and The Times have decided to resurrect the victimhood of Clanchy. But the facts are the facts: Clanchy wrote her racist, Islamophobic, ableist, and Anti-LGBT thoughts for all to see, and when challenged attempted to deny it. (See full 🧵).

I see the 2021 scandal around Kate Clanchy's book "Some Kids I Taught and What They Taught Me" is back in the news as Clanchy receives an apology from the publisher of that book. Here's a reminder of the racism, Islamophobia, anti-LGBT comments, and fat shaming from the book.
