This would have been a good point for someone to have asked, is that really how things work? Or is vacuum in fact an excellent insulator? www.ft.com/content/a5cf...

anne frank died from typhus in such a "prison"

every person perishing of disease or medical complications from being denied care is another anne frank we have created. they may have their own diaries we'll never read.

it's a concentration camp. you can, and should call it what it is.
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

A reminder: this is an Irishman with valid papers speaking about how he's being held in US concentration camps. If you don't have to go to the US, do not go to the US. "GDC" is not "have to go". One denial at the border is going to mark you for life, and that's the best of the bad outcomes.
"A modern-day concentration camp ... People have been killed by the staff here." Irish citizen Seamus Culleton has been in ICE detention since September, despite having a valid work permit and his own business in the US.

I'm uninstalling my RING today.

Dystopia notwithstanding, the Ring commercial about their surveillance finding lost pets makes no sense.

Of the ~10M pets lost annually, their service finds ~500. They want Americans to commit privacy suicide for a .005% success rate???

Yeah, no thanks. Cancelling.

“Accessibility is necessary infrastructure.” Accessibility is political. “It has always been defended by people who chose to act anyway.“ We can uphold good design practices with inclusion at their core.

Thank you for writing, @annaecook.com!
I spent the past month examining how accessibility in design underpins digital infrastructure and how federal divestment creates brittle, inaccessible platforms.

This backslide isn’t inevitable. We can reject it and do better in our work. I explain how in this piece

Accessible design is digital infrastructure — Anna E. Cook
What America by Design reveals about how public platforms fail when maintenance, governance, and accountability are treated as optional and how we can do better no matter our job title.

Reminder that Third Way is a Republican group attempting to pretend to be democrats to try and hamstring the left, and a good way to operate is to do the exact opposite of whatever they suggest.
ICE may be shooting people in the face, sending people to concentration camps, and illegally occupying our cities but, apparently, the Democrats think saying, "abolish ICE" is "emotional" and politically "lethal."

COVID broke Jon Stewart’s brain.

From pushing the lab leak to attacking masking…and now this? Like, do a little bit of homework.

She went to work for fucking Jim Jordan and his subcommittee on the “weaponization of government.”

She’s pushed anti-vax bullshit.

She is not a good faith actor.

Reagan funded and armed death squads, left Americans to die during the AIDS crisis, destroyed the economic tools that built the 20th century, his allies committed treason in 1980 (at the bare minimum, above that Reagan might have been involved) and pioneered "own the libs" politics.
The presidency once served as a reminder of our common humanity. Ronald Reagan described its purpose as building "a nation composed of good and decent people."

For the Disability community, losing Alice Wong is like losing Ursula Le Guin or Octavia Butler. She was a powerhouse, a pioneer, and a mentor to many. She taught me so much. And always reminded me what we were fighting towards, as well as against. I miss her clarity, bravery, and joy.
