Yes exactly- I hope we in #anthropology #archaeology #paleoanthropology heed this message: employ human artists!! #art #noAI
🧪🏺 Update - authors have new paper showing how useless gen- #AI is for archaeological illustration.
All 400 images were multiply inaccurate (physically, socially, technologically, environmentally), even with improved prompts.

JUST USE HUMAN EXPERTS & ARTISTS

Between this and the story about the ice agents who ate at a Mexican restaurant and then arrested some of its workers when they were done, it's a reminder that these people reject even the most basic social agreements of hospitality and of helping others. They're sociopaths.
CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.

Today we went to the bookstore downtown that not only allows doggos but also has snacks for them behind the counter, which is how they tricked me into lingering and buying three books instead of the one I’d come to pick up. Excellent business model. 10/10

Meta is putting a "Name Tag" feature in Ray-Bans - facial recognition through the glasses' camera. You look at someone, AI tells you who they are.
In an internal document, the company wrote that the timing is good because civil society groups are busy with politics and won't cause problems.

This baby girl was a rock star when she had her assessment at CAT. She was purring, making biscuits and giving head butts. She is now available for adoption

Gentle and shy (and also smart) she’ll be an ideal lap cat.

Gentle gray tabby Chloe came to us scared, sad, and shut down after her beloved caregiver died.

She’s relaxed the last two weeks, likes pets, has gained weight, and is willing to trust again.

The thing about ebooks as a substitute is that it ignores two major needs of teen readers: autonomy (the ability to get a book without going through parents) and community (the ability to pass a book around to all their friends.)
I've said this before but I truly believe we could revitalize YA and kidlit overnight by switching to MMPB and paperback first. Kids want paperbacks! It is by far the biggest request I get from teen readers.
hello this is the official petition to bring back mass market paperbacks!! mmpbs are good actually and everyone should do them!! i think esp romantasy readers would really love that shit! and you can still spray those edges!!! bring back mass market paperbacks thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some people are asking what I want Schumer to do. He should be screaming over medical care and access to facilities. He should be going to detention facilities himself and putting his body on the line, as he did at the border in 2019. He should lean into stories about New Yorkers in detention. [1/4]

A species that is only found in the alpine meadows of Washington’s Olympic Mountain Range is now under review for the highest level of federal protection.
Olympic marmots could get federal endangered species protections
Olympic marmots are endemic to Washington’s Olympic Mountains. They thrive in alpine meadows above 4,000 feet, where they spend spring and summer munching on wildflowers and grasses to fatten up in preparation for a hibernation that can last up to eight months. But there are only between 2,000 and 4,000 left.

Meet emergency foster, Chloe. Her caregiver died suddenly of a stroke. No one could/would take her cats before the apt lease was up. We heard about this and took in both on 1/30.

They’re traumatized, scared, and in mourning. We’ll work to earn their trust, and help them through it. #Caturday #cats
