It’s no longer safe to visit the frontline Ukrainian town of Orikhiv, but we’ve been able to send pet food in with the military. A small number of people still live here, taking care of the cats & dogs the best they can. But many have died from the cold and exhaustion. 😔

Lots of hungry Ukrainian cats this morning! Despite having limited electricity and heat, Valentina in Kharkiv takes care of dozens of displaced cats in her apartment. We are making sure they have food & medicine.

Very happy doggo getting some food from the Hachiko team in Kharkiv! It’s so cold in Ukraine right now, we are doing everything we can to help displaced dogs and cats like this. Thank you for your support!

It may be hitting -20C in eastern Ukraine, but the cats (and dogs) still have to eat today. Grateful for the Hachiko volunteers who do this work even in the frigid cold! 🙏🇺🇦😸

The Hachiko team is driving the frontline today to reach displaced pets. These net “tunnels” cover the road to protect from drone attacks. Unfortunately, helping our furry friends in Ukraine is becoming more dangerous by the day.

Keeping the feeders filled in -20 degree weather 🥶 for displaced Ukrainian pups like this.

Cat rescue underway! Our combat medic friend Marika found this cat in sub-freezing temperatures in Kupiansk, Kharkiv region (still controlled by Ukraine, but it’s very destroyed). She’s ill, so we will get her to a warm, safe place for treatment this week. Suggestions for a name?

With russia destroying Ukraine’s power & heat, people aren’t the only ones freezing. The Hachiko team has been working overtime to make sure the dogs & cats have the food they need to survive—and we are also installing outdoor shelters for displaced pets that have nowhere to go.

Happy Caturday from a frozen eastern Ukraine. Admittedly, the cats are not as well mannered as Ukrainian dogs—no waiting in line here. But I can’t blame them, it’s -20 degrees 🥶

Good morning from displaced dogs of Ukraine who are facing -20 temperatures 🥺

Ukrainian cats are tough as nails.

This is Mikhail, a retiree in Kharkiv who helps animals. He has 20 cats here (and 1 dog), all found in the street—some hit by cars, others displaced by war. He cares for 50 more cats who live in basements outside. The Hachiko team is making sure he has food & medicine for them!

Today, in response to attacks that took out power & heat, Ukrainian Railways deployed 7 of our Invincibility Train Cars. 2 more will be active tomorrow. I hate that these are needed, but I’m glad we are able to provide some warmth, phone charging & a safe place for kids to go. 🇺🇦

Snowy Caturday breakfast in Kharkiv, Ukraine. 30 cats live outside this apartment building (they go into the basements at night) and 20 live in one of the apartments. The Hachiko team will be setting up feeding stations here thanks to your donations. 😺

The Hachiko team is on the ground with emergency pet support in Kharkiv after today’s ballistic missile attack destroyed an entire apartment building. And people say russia wants peace?
January 2, 2026 at 10:11 PM
In snowy Kharkiv, the Hachiko team met these good dogs 🐕 who were homeless and very hungry. Local resident Andrey is helping to take care of them, so we made sure he has enough food, plus warm bedding and hay for a shed where they can escape the cold.

Bringing some light and warmth to cold nights in Gaza: Tonight we delivered a first round of thousands of blankets and solar lamps to families living in the camps. 💡

Jinx is loving his Christmas ornament present from Ukraine: a brave defender and his cat. 🇺🇦🐱

Merry Christmas evening from the Holy Family Church in Gaza City! Today after mass, we were able to bring fresh vegetable & fruit bundles for 2,000 families, along with special Christmas treats for the kids: chocolate, cookies, milk, and these balls to play with.🎄✨

Today on Christmas Day in Ukraine, the Hachiko team helped evacuate this dog Barbos from Kramatorsk to a safe new home in Kharkiv region. We even got him a shelter thanks to support from Purina! 🐕

Reminder that Carol of the Bells is Ukrainian, written in Pokrovsk—a city I spent much time in before it was destroyed by russia. Don’t miss this powerful performance by friends in Ukraine’s Cultural Forces: youtu.be/IWFq7Sevki0?...

The Hachiko team is expanding deliveries across Kharkiv region due to ongoing attacks knocking out electricity during winter. Tatiana here takes care of 35 dogs and 3 cats. We also met Vlad, who himself is displaced from Sloviansk and goes around feeding homeless pets.

Some good news: We got more fresh produce into Gaza tonight! Bundles of 🍅🥔🍠🧅🍊🍌 will start reaching 1000s of families tomorrow (photo is from last weekend’s distribution in Gaza City). In total, we’ve been able to bring in 680,000 pounds—but need for nutritious food is huge.

This dog was standing guard as the cats had some lunch today near Kherson. Ukrainian dogs are the most well-behaved.
