at some point we ought to interrogate the link between the techbro-freak demographic and cowardice in confronting death anxiety. not usually one to go "society has gotten too soft and that's why everyone is weird now" but in this case it feels salient. I think we unlearned how to accept death

very weird to see so much snow at the ground when the trees still have most of their leaves, to the point that the trees are now dropping their leaves on top of the fresh snow. never seen that before

if i have a friend over and we're talking in the living room, Dolly will hide in the closet (unless she knows you already). but if i'm alone and talking (phone, zoom, work call) she always wants to come over and snuggle and be involved. it's extremely endearing.

We've gotten so many of these pieces where a liberal engages in a good-faith effort to understand Trump voters. Every time, they discover that there's no deeper sympathetic reason they hold their views. They're just misinformed and hateful. My own efforts have found this too.

I feel like "we've made an app that gives people psychosis and here's how many people we've sent insane" is past late-stage capitalism. It's some new stage of previously unforeseen horrors beyond human imagination.
