This whole thread. Thank you. I needed this today.
When we talk about disability ancestors, we’re not talking about some distant, abstract lineage. We’re talking about people who fought, organized, wrote, dreamed, and survived alongside us. People who left us tools, strategies, jokes, tenderness, and a politic were responsible for carrying forward.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

What if your body couldn’t bear light, sound, movement — or even touch? Today, #SevereMEDay, we ask you to imagine living that way not just for a day… but for years. For people living with Very Severe ME, this isn’t a metaphor — it’s reality. 🧵

Great information and recommendations re: severe ME in the below thread
Today is Severe ME/CFS Awareness Day. If you aren't familiar, ME/CFS is an utterly debilitating, usually life-long condition with no approved treatments and often, no medical care. me-pedia.org/wiki/Severe_...

Or a social life, or anything else. Facts.
166. If you're a disabled person who works full time, it's sometimes impossible to have hobbies due to having no energy at the end of the day.

Disability communities have so much to teach the world about community & resistance.

About creativity, love, & anger. About power, justice, & politics. About acceptance & change.

I wish more of you would listen to, learn from, and collaborate with us.

The world would be better for it.

Folks love to quote @timothysnyder.bsky.social, often "don't obey in advance" but there're further lessons—So what’s keeping you from wearing a mask? It’s easy to fall in step if there are only maskless faces around you; break the spell of denial, set the example—we must protect the health we have.

Agreed. And ableism underlies every other marginalization, including race. Ableism is used to control us.
honestly kind of tired of takes that paint it as always just, solely racism. it's a huge, important, undeniable factor, don't get me wrong. it's worth pointing out and addressing. but make no mistake: people also REALLY fucking despise disabled people, especially young disabled people

I don't know who's going to see this but I stand with trans folks of all ages. What SCOTUS did is wrong. Everyone should be able to make their own healthcare decisions. I'm sorry there's so much transphobia in the world.

"I suspect of all the humbling wisdom and necessary perspectives that so many people I love with chronic conditions have developed could be valuable for so many if only we would listen and engage with the content instead of pushing it away."
And this is what I keep thinking about: What does everyone need to integrate from all of this? What does the dominant culture at large need to understand from this mass disabling? What does the collective psyche need to integrate about the realities of chronicity?

My Army father taught me how to do the half-step when I was a kid. He said they teach it in boot camp.
Unless something has changed drastically from when my relatives went through boot camp, marching in step is the first thing they teach you. And people naturally fall in step when waking together. I saw a Green Beret do a little half-step to get *out* of sync. I think it was subtle protest.

How long before we find out that the Minnesota assassin has a history of domestic violence?

Reminds me of the ESPN producer I dated who, when learning that I write fiction, told me that I "should write".

I do, dumbass. I just don't write copy for basketball ads.
When people say gen AI can allow working class folks to learn and disabled folks to create; the subtext is that that don’t think working class folks *have* already been learning or disabled folks *have* been creating. The subtext is one of total disrespect for the working class and the disabled.

Same, but for me it was engineering
I used the 'helpful advice' of guys who told me women would never be able to stay in comics as pavers on my walkway to staying in comics.
So I literally started national trans anti-domestic violence work in the USA and was one of the first out trans people to work in a women's shelter (I believe there was one in SanFran before me).

I cannot count the number of cis dudes who tell me trans folks in women's shelters will never work.
