Oh yes, I loved that book too. The Hobbit. The Chronicles of Narnia. The Little House books before I knew how problematic they were. The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper. Anything by Robin McKinley.

Thank you. I've been disabled so long I forget that people believe this. They also think that if they get sick/hurt, a doctor will make it all better, and I must have done something wrong to be disabled.

This is the necessary context I've been looking for in all the online discourse. Thank you for pointing out the bigger picture.

Love. The people who would miss me if I was gone. All the love I still want to show the people who matter. Sheer stubbornness. Hope, because I've been at rock bottom before and things have always changed sooner or later.

Folks love to quote @timothysnyder.bsky.social, often "don't obey in advance" but there're further lessons—So what’s keeping you from wearing a mask? It’s easy to fall in step if there are only maskless faces around you; break the spell of denial, set the example—we must protect the health we have.

3. Think of the family members you're influencing, especially younger ones. You're setting an example for how to handle it when people don't treat you the way you deserve. You can change their lives for the better.

You don't. You feel the guilt and do it anyway.

1. Don't listen to what other people say. They don't know your history. They don't have to live with your decisions.

2. Imagine yourself 5 years down the road. Will you have wished you went NC sooner or waited longer?
