We all live under the same sky.

Antifascist, anticapitalist, feminist, anti-racist, anti-imperialist, humanist. Somehow still convinced we can make the world a better place because we absolutely must.

End capitalism before it ends us.

Here’s the dumbest thing you’ll see in a while, from the source where Trump gets most of his information.

This is why much of the world now sees America as a nation of dangerous morons: toddlers with nukes, led by a bloviating, ignorant gutter monkey and his pack of screeching, brainless hyenas.

There’s a big difference between ICE, which shoots people in the street, and the regular cops, who shoot people in the street

the top democrats aren't refusing to take a strong stance against ICE out of cowardice; they like ICE and the things it does and they want it to be there when they win the next election so they can use it. if they ever budge on this it will be because they were forced

i think even with all the atrocities of the fascists, nothing is more demotivating and nothing makes me want to disengage from politics more than being inundated with replies from people who do not know how to think about politics beyond “dems good and wanting more from them is bad”

Sometime around Bill Clinton the wonk-brained lanyard perverts all decided that compromising and nudging and creating byzantine incentives for the private sector to do it were sophisticated and that sophistication was the highest form of politics and it made them all smug about doing nothing at all.

A significant amount of centrists hate Trump solely because he does the atrocities so loudly and rudely that they are forced to go through the motions of noticing and caring, when they'd much rather just Not Have to Hear About It.

american liberals are fine with millions of deportations as long as they happen quietly and the police don't hurt any white people. proud of it, really
Obama deported 3 million illegal immigrants during his time in office and I don’t remember a single scene like this.

nobody was held accountable for the invasion of iraq. nobody. none of the politicians who committed that holocaust & none of the media figures who endlessly banged the drums of war. not only are they not jailed, they didn’t even lose their jobs. after a million dead, do you not find that sickening?

All the videos we see of ICE/police/military assaulting people on camera are happening because they know they will face no consequences for their actions. They're breaking the law because they believe the law no longer applies to them. What kept them in check before was fear. Now they have none.

Saying Trump is an aberration instead of a symptom is an endorsement of the systems and practices that explicitly created and empowered Trump. It's expressly counterproductive, as it suggests that everything will go back to Normal if we all just button down and wait until the orange man leaves.

I really, truly, so do not want to be "that guy," this this is a conversation that happens among Black and Brown folks (in my experience) at least twice monthly.

We've BEEN asking this question and everyone else is just playing catch-up.
at some point we're gonna have to have a real conversation about why we're still paying federal taxes to a regime that isn't using them to help anyone, but instead is using them to brutalize us

The evil stuff the fascists are doing are not "distractions" in the traditional sense. They know that each thing draws attention from another, but they are wholly committed to all of the atrocities. They're capitalizing on a pronounced lack of structural criticism from their opponents.

I want us to stay focused on the grief of this terrible moment, but when Black people tell you not to touch something, that is not a challenge. Some things are ours for a reason. We can remember Renee Good as the person she was and the circumstances of her murder without co-opting Black suffering.
“Say her name” is not about allyship. It’s a term crafted for people who are the focus of violence that deliberately erases us. It’s not for her, and it wouldn’t be for her, even if she were Heather Heyer, who didn’t get it when she died for civil rights. Can you understand that?

The whole *point* of Eco's essay is that fascism is a broad spectrum of ideologies and governing strategies, and it will adapt to the national character of the society where it emerges. To say "yeah Trump hits all the points, but here are ways in which he differs somewhat from Hitler" is wild.
It also presumes only Hitler has ever been a fascist, which is ??? in an essay that so liberally quotes from Eco's essay about growing up under Mussolini.

A friend in Minneapolis just sent me this video. Looks like thousands have come together for a vigil after an ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. This was my neighborhood for several years before coming to Portland.
