An ignored feature of prominent academics is that they are often surrounded by money but make relatively little. Many badly want to play in that pool. The same occurs with news media. See the Evan Sullivan art dealing scandal as an example.
Exactly this. People keep saying "well, scientists need to raise money". But almost all the academics who connected with Epstein were "entrepreneurs", creating carve-out institutes and projects and chasing big speaking engagements, who wanted to float above universities as institutions.
Epstein’s economic power among academics was made possible by a capitalist system that makes higher education dependent on the charity economy rather than a public good supported by taxing the rich

This is all stupid bullshit but I remain pretty disgusted at how things like marriage and having children are treated like Xbox achievements instead of actually loving and caring for someone else. Yeah I’m going to work 70 hours a week but definitely need a spouse, her name is Beth or something idk

A Washington Post article suggests that, beyond a certain threshold, larger homes don't make people happier. Instead, well-being is correlated with affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods where they feel socially connected.

Democrats would be crazy not to make this comment super-famous tomorrow when the Senate debates health care. Republicans don’t want you to be cared for as a patient when you’re sick. They think of you as a “consumer”—and tough luck if you don’t have the money for the care you need.
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

We can’t let them get away with this. Miller and the other architects of this sadism need to go to prison.

This doesn’t even do it justice. Watch to see the passion from Ardron and Olmstead - both wanted it so badly (no knock on the rest; they are the returnees from France).
Nothing quite captures what damage Kingsley Jones was doing to Canada Men than their best player, who refused to play for the team under him, coming back and instantly scoring 4 tries to create their biggest result in years.
Tyler 4rdron.

After mountains of pressure, and a few penalties, Ardron gets over for their 4th try of the game, and the bonus point.

Nelson converts.

“He’s easily bruising. He has bone pain. He looks pale .… He has also lost his appetite …. His mom is terrified that these are symptoms that his leukemia situation might be deteriorating.”

A 6-year-old with cancer is languishing in a U.S. detention camp. Who will answer for this cruelty?

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

Seriously. It would be far better if Senate Dems stopped strategizing entirely and just voted on "do I agree with this or not?" If you don't, then (a) don't vote for it and (b) obstruct it.

That's it. You don't even need to strategize! Republicans will have to come to you for help!
