I’m now in Austin TX due to FL’s anti-trans policies. I had to abandon a huge plant collection 15+ years in making and a position at a large botanical garden in north FL. I’m still looking for decent work and a kind soul with a greenhouse I could use for my rarest plant 🌱

This makes the conservative economic value of clean air $1T annually in the U.S.

And then you would have to add the damage from other sources such as manufacturing and use of chemicals such as aerosols, etc.

Air pollution from burning fossil fuels causes 100,000 to 200,000 avoidable American deaths per year. At the EPA's statistical value of life of $10 million, these deaths cost America $1 to $2 trillion per year, every year. These costs far outweigh the costs of transitioning off of fossil fuels.
Air pollution deaths attributable to fossil fuels: observational and modelling study

-The long awaited (much warned about) intro of “AI” recognition. It starts w/ searching for a “brown dog” but means the tech is there for lisence plate reading, face recognition, searching for suspects by description, etc

This is bleak: Jes Staley, currently CEO of Barclays, reassuring Epstein that popular revolt against financial elites is unlikely because capitalism and pop culture have defanged social movements, leaving people more invested in consumption than justice.

If there's ever been a time to NOT be incrementalist, this is it. The most political capital you're gonna have is right now. And we got Gestapo death squads in MSP and TB spreading through concentration camps in Texas. If you can't find a win there, get out of politics. The Epstein Class, baby

The difference between a dem vs gop admin for even this
And the trend goes both ways, by the way.

The US government is telling Americans to hate Europeans and Canadians. And many have dutifully changed their opinions.

I read thousands of pages of Epstein files this weekend trying to understand what he wanted out of his meeting with 4chan's Christopher Poole. Here's everything we know about Epstein's plans to dismantle the internet and, eventually, democracy.

If we want to do crude numbers I’m 1/8 Greek and 7/8 northwest European. This is my skin in early May and I wear sun hats while working

My honest reaction to the trailer was “wow everyone is not tan enough” lmao

The immediate base of my parents
FL native Red maple/Acer rubra is exceptionally dry to the point it’d even kill invasive lantana lol so I began putting epiphytic and succulent plants there
this is it early Feb 2024 all but the striped Neoregelia are hardy to at least mid-20s

For past few years it hadn’t gone below a brief freezing dip (29 at lowest, likely higher though) at my parents place. I have a bunch of bromeliads and orchids there mounted on trees from “near zone 9” areas (southern Brazil, Uruguay, China)so I’m excited to see how they faired at sustained mid-20s

Again, if Rowling cared specifically about females or whatever as she defines it she could use her absurd wealth to provide pads and birth control in impoverished regions where school is regularly missed due to menstruation but she doesn’t.
She just hates trans people !

People say we can't compare this to the Third Reich because of the atrocities but we only found out about the atrocities after the fact when it was all said and done and we're not done with this yet so I am sure the worst stomach churning shit has yet to be revealed.
ICYMI: The US is currently holding three times as many people in immigrant detention as were detained in the Nazi concentration camp system in spring 1939 — six years into the Third Reich, and just before the start of World War II.

When you think you're gonna divide a community but instead just give them a common enemy lol
More than 34,000 Minnesotans signed up to be trained as ICED observers with various activist groups in recent weeks, many of them since Jan. 7, when a federal agent shot and killed Renée Good.
Thousands of new ICE watchers hit the streets after two killings
Minnesotans outraged by the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti have signed up in large numbers to monitor and protest ICE with other activists.

We already have the early vote, which shows Democrat Taylor Rehmet leading Leigh Wambsganss (no, it's not just a name from Succession!) 56-44.

Unusually, during the first round, Dems did *better* with the E-day vote than the early vote. If that pattern holds...
