Rutte måste gå
Thank you Max, you're 100% right. Ukraine, a country of 39 million, manages to hold back Russia since four years (and counting). But the EU, with it's 450 million citizens and all it's economic power cannot? Complete and utter bogus. It's a question of determination and willpower, not of capacity!
Please. This is absurd. Europe can certainly deter Russia and defend itself if its focused and determined. Perpetuating a sense of European helplessness may help Rutte bureaucratically but its 1. wrong 2. prevents action. 3. willfully blind: the US ain't coming to defend Europe.

“If anyone thinks here… that the European Union or Europe as a whole can defend itself without the US, keep on dreaming,” Nato SecGen Mark Rutte told the European Parliament. “You can’t.”

“It will make things more complicated. I think Putin will love it. So think again.”

Note how in Abu Dhabi, Russia again rejected the ceasefire Ukraine agreed to almost a year ago. Ru doesn’t want peace. Journalists need to always front load this main point instead of talking about how the sides are still far apart as if they are equidistant and peace is in the middle.

Rutte måste gå

Det är ju inte huvudsak Trump som är ursprunget till "the issue"
🇺🇸🧊 Rutte on the Arctic: I really feel Trump deserves some defense; he was the one during Trump 45 who said there was an issue with Arctic security.

And he said it again when he came back into office in January. I think he is right; there is an issue with security.

Detta kunde vara en historia uppdiktad av en fantasifull elev. 😁

Det här är ju en så meningslöst fråga som bara spär på människors hopplöshetskänsla.

Det kan ju gå åt fel håll i exakt 360 graders riktningar

The TACO cycle:

Markets want to price in TACO. But TACO only works if Trump sees stocks tank.

So we get a loop: Trump does things → nothing happens (markets already priced in TACO) → that emboldens him to do more → until markets start to think he might not TACO → stocks fall → TACO is restored.

This is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.
yeah, just out of interest, how many people choose the pen on the right for real work or art? See a lot of them in professional workplaces, do you?

Some Europeans will be reassured by this, and wind down the (cautious) assertiveness of recent days.

But it shows that displays of European resolve move Trump in ways that the misguided sycophancy of previous 12 months never did. It's a reason to press forward, not pull back.
Trump on NATO: "We never ask for anything, and we never got anything. We probably won't get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force, where we would be frankly unstoppable. But I won't do that. Okay?"

Mark Carney is a fantastic demonstration of why having a coherent political and economic worldview is so important for a politician.

When you encounter something out of the scope of what you’ve previously experienced, you can derive your approach from first principles.
