Climate knowledge has been taken hostage to prevent climate action.

“It didn’t happen by accident. It’s the product of a deliberate and systematic assault on knowledge by some of the richest people on Earth. Preventing climate breakdown means protecting ourselves from the storm of lies.”
Dark forces are preventing us fighting the climate crisis – by taking knowledge hostage | George Monbiot
The fundamental problem is this: that most of the means of communication are owned or influenced by the very rich, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

good thread.

rental rates are about 1/3 of the population. that's a lot of people! (and of course concentrated among young/lower income people)
So before I mute this guy allow me to point out this is completely dumb shit.

I have been to 44 states. People are worried about rent all over the country. This is happening in cities big and small.

Those trying to buy are also worried about costs.
This is real urban liberal brain. Rent is very high in liberal cities but the vast majority of all American voters have fixed rated of mortgages or own outright. With renting even less common in swing states.

As the climate crisis intensifies, Chevron is once again "increasing investments in oil and gas exploration," Reuters reports.

One of the most subtly insane aspects of the unrelenting car dependency we’ve deliberately built across North America is the incredible reluctance we have to remove the driving privilege, even from those who clearly are a danger to themselves & others, because “people have to drive.” #CarDependency

Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

I hope if nothing else it opens people's eyes to what's going on. I used to consistently hear "the media just wants clicks/ratings." If they wanted that they would be doggedly pursuing the Epstein story. But what they actually want is to help Trump rule us and ultimately enslave us
Any other time, any other President, and "the dude was in a global conspiracy to fuck them kids" would have been 24/7 coverage. Even Dubya.

I remember the fucking Lewinsky coverage. Our media have become craven hacks carrying water for rich pedophiles and I feel insane typing that but there it is.

I don't see a big conflict here. BART is right to focus on keeping the lights on. And Oakland advocates are right to think long-term and paint a picture of a future with better BART, creating some excitement ahead of the funding measure.
BART’s fiscal crisis could close 9 stations. So why are people pushing for a new one in Oakland?
BART is facing a budget crisis of unfathomable magnitude. But that hasn’t stopped political leaders from pressing for a new train station in East Oakland.

My current boss helps me prepare for every interview (consultants interview a lot) by reminding me the best answer to the question "do you have experience in X" is never just "no" even when that is the truth. You're supposed to spin a related experience or say how you would do it if you could.
It is kind of amazing to me that the hiring process does a good job of actively weeding out autistic people,

And then when autistic people actually get jobs they're like "wow direct and clear communication and a strong reliable work ethic, just what we're looking for!"

Could've fooled me..
Stop using chatgpt adopt an autistic with special interests TODAY this deal wont last forever mostly cause they get overstimulated pretty fast but hey great for the environment amirite

The thing about the "moderate to win" crowd is that they pose as Data Guys but very clearly have an animus toward the left that skews their analysis. When Trump won, they were all pathetically eager to say, "ah, the country is anti-immigrants xenophobes now, top to bottom, what can you do?"

Pendraig milnerae (Pendraig = “chief dragon” in Welsh) was discovered in 1952, not far from where I live, but only named in 2021 after being re-discovered in storage by Angela Milner and Susannah Maidment.
