In 1854, after watching the federal government deploy 2000 federal troops and spend $40,000 sending Anthony Burns back into slavery, Boston's Amos Adams Lawrence said “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.”
Yesterday morning kids were sent running from their bus stop in panic because ICE showed up. This guy at today’s ICE Out of Lindenwold protest is a must watch 😭. @maddow.bsky.social

W/e hangup you may have about the Mormon-industrial-genealogy complex, it's worth a spin on familysearch or ancestry to see if you could count here. (I don't). Perhaps you had ancestors who made it on the Underground Railroad? A generation or two stopped en route from Ireland? TAKE A LOOK, Y'ALL
I'm not saying that Canada is perfect, I'm saying that the bar is pretty low right now.

Made a commitment to lose weight this year. I've been fat most of my adult life so let's go the other way, right?

As of this week, I'm at 239 pounds. I want to go lower, but I felt it important to note this milestone, because for the first time since my 20s, I weigh the same as this American icon.

This is an unapologetically sappy feel-good subject (at least, I guess, for people in a happy relationship”). So, to prepare for Valentine’s Day, what did you and your partner do for a first date?

My wife and I went to tea at Huntington Gardens and walked around.
On our first date, my spouse and I spent like an hour talking about footnotes.

"call your members of congress" okay here she is
Marsha P. Johnson said it best:

"No pride for some of us, without liberation for all of us."

I'm proud to be a co-sponsor of the Trans Bill of Rights. Our trans siblings deserve safety, dignity, & freedom.
The Trans Bill of Rights would guarantee federal protections for trans people.

Send the message and urge your members of Congress in the House and the Senate to co-sponsor the Trans Bill of Rights:

AI CAN'T READ WHOLE BOOKS
I'm pretty sure I know. They aren't. We're not going to really be able to make a lot of progress in dealing with the implications of this tech unless and until we get rid of all this "woo-woo" talk about LLMs. Anthropic pushing this line is PR, unserious.

there are so many talented people; women, people of colour, LGBTQIA+ people, people who literally aren't whoever the shitty white guys are in a room where decisions take place who lose out - and culture, science, everything loses to them. but talentlessly white guys don't care about that
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

My idea for World Cup content somebody should do is drop an English reporter in the center of every World Cup hosting city and having them film themselves trying to get to the stadium.
