It's kind of amazing to go back and look at the beloved anime of yesteryear, such as Lady Oscar/The Rose of Versailles, to see just how much they drastically departed from the source material despite being hugely popular manga with high expectations. Nowadays, fans demand the manga be the storyboard

if you haven't seen the aim for the ace ovas (part supervised part directed by dezaki), i was sort of amazed how the directorial style mutates into proto-dear brother. they even reuse some scenes! it's really interesting, but it's also after all that TV anime, and does depend on it

The part everyone forgets about Cody Rhodes Solves Racism ~5 yrs later is his initial response to the criticism was that he actually focus grouped the promo to get it right.

Seriously, I don't think enough of the discussion of the Cody promo is digging into how particularly insane it was.
There's no way to read it other than that he thought 5 years of "Cody Raheem Rhodes" and "Cody Devante Rhodes" jokes making fun of him was Black fans genuinely adopting him as Black.

Thinking about how AEW getting tons of positive pub for the "FUCK ICE!" chant occurred in the same week as The Rockdaughter basically saying WWE bans talent from cruticizing Trump, CM Punk calling all Samoans overly emotional, and Cody Rhodes concluding Black Twitter genuinely endorsed him as Black.
