I loved getting to gush on this pod about how Ai Yazawa’s use of character design and naturalistic dialogue conveys so much about the construction of femininity and masculinity. She is truly one of the greats

How Just Like Mona Lisa uses speculative fiction to explore gender norms

The melodramatic coming-of-age story sometimes falls into fraught tropes about genderqueer people but also raises pointed commentary on the real world’s many gender paradoxes.

A transcript is available for our watchalong podcast of NEKOMONOGATARI!

After 30 episodes the series starts showing glimpses of the heights it can achieve, largely ditching Araragi to let its heroines speak for themselves.

Thank you so much for being patient with the end of year reruns, AniFam. We're polishing multiple things up for the new year but it's left us with a bit of gap at present.

If there’s a standard release, I go for the cheaper option. I don’t really care for the physical extras and shelf space is valuable. 🥲

Occasionally, but not often. There were three series I had to have the limited editions for. One was Viz's first release of the original Sailor Moon anime. Not only was it the first time Stars had been released in English, but by that point, I had bought the other seasons at least twice before

I own some older fancy boxed sets, like My-HiME (it has a neat character-lineup box art) but I don't know if that one was truly limited or not.

At this point it'd take something extraordinary to make me buy a limited edition physical release nowadays.

I'm not gonna say I *never* do, but oversized LE packaging that doesn't fit on the same shelf as my 600 other Blu-rays is really annoying, and as physical media goes increasingly niche/boutique you see too many cases where the LE is the only release or a standard release comes months later.
