remember when centrists would call you an insane person if you said jeff bezos ownership is going to run the washington post into the ground
For those of you keeping score at home, the actual cut to the Post newsroom was 45%, not the widely reported one third. Remaining journalists are a bit over 400, down from around 1100 four years ago and 580 when Bezos bought the place.

Dana Terrace’s 'Knights of Guinevere' has been greenlit for a full season, and a new trailer just dropped. We spoke with Terrace about building the series, a bespoke 2D pipeline at Glitch, and what the season order means.

"Racist people are firing and laying off Black women at three times the rate of other women."

😬Yikes! It sounds bad when you say it like that!

"Black women are losing jobs at 3 times the rate."

Much better! Makes it sound like the Black women just need to be more careful or better at their jobs!
Black Women Are Losing Jobs At Three Times The Rate Of Other Women | Essence
New labor data shows Black women accounted for a disproportionate share of job losses across 2025, especially in federal, education, and care-sector roles.

Two episodes into Journal with Witch. Really impressed with how thoughtful and well-paced it is. A great example of an anime that would be inaccurately described as "slice-of-life" when what it is is a human drama.

I portray cis gals, trans girls, transfeminine enbies, genderless beings, monsters, young cis guys, and man's men- my gender expression in performance is *unshackleable* and that's exactly the way I like it! I'm 100% a woman and then some! Got more gender than can be quantified~

Yu-Gi-Oh went from a simple manga to a gargatuan franchise because Kazuki Takahashi kept getting fan mail asking to make Duel Monsters into a real game and he ended up reworking the story to help accomplish that
There are some terrible plot choices made due to external production factors eg actors wanting to leave. But can anyone think of one where it's turned out brilliantly -a "necessity is the mother of invention" type situation?

When the anime slowed down, so the manga could catch up, it introduced an exclusive 13-episode arc in the meantime. There we got two of the best antagonists in the show: Ail and An. A great example of healing from trauma. And as a whole, this arc's actually more well-built than the 2nd half of R.

I know this goes without saying, but ever since the Crunchyroll/Funimation merger, a lot of anime hasn't been easy to access.

And this isn't even handing it to Netflix. Everyone else keeps tripping over themselves

Every now and then, I think back to that one video @mothersbasement.bsky.social about the anime streaming landscape and how the only streaming service involved with anime that has improved rather than declined is somehow Netflix and man is depressing how fucking well that aged

At this point I think the only entities that partake in the anime streaming game who will still reliably do physical releases for anything they pick up are Viz and Sentai and both have been driven to near irrelevance in the current anime landscape 🙃🙃

(the latter still probably has it worse though)
i used to get mad about this because being in prime jail lessened the likelihood of a nice physical media release, but it sure seems like more anime than not is just not gonna get a physical release, period, so.
Prime Video announced they acquired the following streaming licenses

• THE GHOST IN THE SHELL (Minus Russia & Japan)

• FIST OF THE NORTH STAR: HOKUTO NO KEN

• From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman Season 2

No shade on the quality of them - it's just that, like, everything that goes to Amazon exclusively ends up in this black hole where it's removed from the orbit of discussion.

Wotakoi, Magilumiere, Sanda, Hell Teacher Nube...

It's a place where shows go to die, outside of rare exceptions

People say we can't compare this to the Third Reich because of the atrocities but we only found out about the atrocities after the fact when it was all said and done and we're not done with this yet so I am sure the worst stomach churning shit has yet to be revealed.
ICYMI: The US is currently holding three times as many people in immigrant detention as were detained in the Nazi concentration camp system in spring 1939 — six years into the Third Reich, and just before the start of World War II.

Spoiler alert: Elon Musk will not build a colony or an outpost or so much as an outdoor toilet on the Moon. Not in ten years. Not in twenty years. Not ever. When your dipshit friend or relative expresses excitement over his announcement, just change the subject. There's no point. It's a cult.

your vote has weight outside of election day. regardless of how you end up voting, until then you can bargain with it. the lesser evils are watching you, if you promise your vote for nothing you'll get nothing. say you wont vote for bad candidates. say you'll only vote for policies you like

BREAKING: The House passed the so-called SAVE America Act which threatens to upend our freedom to vote.

The bill could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters by requiring documents like passports or birth certificates to register to vote and forcing voter roll purges. The Senate must reject it.

Yes, by all means, Democrats, whatever you do, in the middle of Trump's SOTU speech, DO NOT stand up and yell, "QUIET PIGGY," unless you want to be the frontrunner for the 2028 presidential nomination.
NEW: Jeffries clamping down on SOTU disruptions

Said at whips meeting this AM to either sit in "silent defiance" or boycott altogether, sources told @axios.com
