Dealt heretofore untold levels of psychic damage to myself today when I realized this year is the 30th anniversary of Super Mario 64

LinkedIn is so cool. The feed is basically:

• AI
• Have you tried AI?
• Here are ways to use AI
• I'm starting out a post with AI skepticism but by the end you'll see the light
• Here's a pie chart. Also, AI for some reason
• Actual human people saying please hire me for the love of god

preaching to the choir here but those AI portraits making the rounds lately are so hideous I can't help but question the taste of anyone who shares them.

Also, as someone who has been perpetually trying to query agents for the past year, I have reached a zen state of rejection acceptance.

I know this may sound rude, but it actually makes me feel better about people not getting back to me. It's easier to just think "hey, maybe they deleted it without even looking at it." That's fine.

I don't know who needs to hear this but you can just delete emails without looking at them

If only all the kids who made fun of me for having the poster on my wall back in 95 could see me now, alone and watching it in B&W. Can’t overstate how hard this version goes. More ready than ever to join the Lo-Teks.

I can finally share that I wrote a retrospective on the Tales of series for Game Informer! I chatted with some of the leads of the series at Bandai Namco about the many games, like Symphonia and Arise. I’ve been working on this piece for a few months and it’s one I’m so proud of finally sharing.

Hate to drop in with controversy first thing in the morning but I think every Pokémon design is good. My five-year-old has the big tome of all of them and we've pored over them obsessively and they're all fine!

A household with the stomach bug is about as close to the structure of a slasher movie you can get with your average illness

Back when I was a kid there were games that looked dangerous. At least, that's what I thought the first time I saw a screenshot of Mondu's Fight Palace (AKA Tongue of the Fatman) in a magazine. This but extremely low-res was brutal fodder for the imagination:

It's gonna be even grosser, too.

"Chatbot, I'm depressed."

"Taco Bell® is open. Remember when you and Jacob used to do those midnight runs? It's never too late to bring back fourth meal, Brody!"
after watching the most powerful tools of the last 20 years go from "extremely useful, just ad supported" to "deliberately worse to sell more ads" you absolutely cannot convince me that LLMs will not become intimate, deeply convincing and subtle advertising/influencing mechanisms

I'm less interested in all the "anime domination" takes and more interested in the fact that two R-rated cartoons topped the box office this year.

Sad to hear about the passing of Tomonobu Itagaki. He was outspoken and one of the last "rock star" game devs. Fondly recalling the story from 13 or so years ago in which he declared that Aerosmith and Armageddon saved his life after a tumultuous, incomplete Japanese release of Dead or Alive 2.
