Every novel is a game the reader and the writer agree to play together, but some novels require more agreement than others. INVISIBLE CITIES really asks you to buy in. How to describe it?

I could tell you, I suppose, that it's a dreamy travelogue of invented cities—

Their failure to do anything about the media is suicidal. No Leveson 2, no action against X (to the contrary they still use it), no action to remove the Tory infestation at the BBC.

You cannot win elections in a country that is being strategically disinformed.

ianvisits.co.uk is such a superb website - been to so many events in London that I wouldn’t have heard of without it. Also, while I’m re-tweeting him, Borderlines by @lewisbaston.bsky.social is a brilliant exploration of Europe, seen through its frontier zones - politics, history, folklore and war.

The UK isn’t a “soft touch” on asylum.

UK asylum seeker benefits are similar to European neighbours

No right to work before 12 months (it’s 6 months in France, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands)

UK settlement after 5 years (it’s 3 or 4 in Germany)

Let’s cut out the alarmist rhetoric.
