More young people are turning to AI chatbots for flirting, late-night talks, and “perfect” partners who never leave them on read. Cute trend or red flag? @armarshwriter.bsky.social weighs in on the risks, realities, and safer alternatives to AI chatbots here:

This is them trying to legalize what they are long already doing, FYI. This also happens all the time to all youth in juvenile detention facilities. It shouldn’t be lawful to do to any young person. 🤬
BREAKING: The House of Representatives just passed a bill that would subject immigrant children to invasive bodily searches and keep them in detention instead of releasing them to their families.

The Senate must vote no on this horrific bill.

“it’s reasonable to ask questions about trans girls in sports” was always intended to mainstream transphobia.

It’s absurd that people fell for it. Democrats are constantly letting oppressors set the terms of debate instead of just saying “no, fuck you.”

he was a joke candidate till he went full racist in that rant and then suddenly he was the frontrunner
It is revisionist history to say anything other than Trump’s coalition was built on old fashioned American racism.

He opened with “They’re not sending their best,” progressed to “shit hole countries,” and now we have pogroms in our cities.

Some may have held their nose, but they did vote for this.
Felt like I needed to show the president's anti-Somali speech because one day people will tell her it never happened, that these words were never said by the American president.

I misremember who said it but the line "he was elected precisely because he had no redeeming qualities, it was a message sent to the first black president that the worst most unqualified white man would be given what the most erudite black man worked his whole life to achieve" was always all of it

I was devastated to hear about the loss of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer. Rob is a generational talent that used his voice to advocate for a better world. We live in a better country because of them. They will be missed.

A beautuful thread about Rob Reiner.
I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

I never in a million years thought I would have the same job (side hustles notwithstanding) for 27 years, but here we are.
Today is our 27th birthday! We hope you’ll join us in wishing Scarleteen and all the wonderful folks who have helped keep it going — our founder and other folks here at the start, our staff and volunteers, our writers and illustrators, our partners, our donors, and our users — a happy birthday! 🎂

If we're not at war, Pete Hegseth is a murderer. If we are at war, Pete Hegseth is still a murderer. He's a murderer. And you don't need to go to The Hague to hold him accountable because there are perfectly good, American laws AGAINST MURDER.

Pete Hegseth Should Be Charged With Murder
No matter how you look at the strikes on alleged “drug boats”—as acts of war or attacks on civilians—Hegseth has committed a crime and should be prosecuted.

Whitewashing of everything that led up to the racist vile rant from Trump today is why we are experiencing this today.

Perhaps as amends you can report this @nytimes.com and write an editorial, and put the story on Page 1, with no weasel words.

Or A-13 with the regular deflection.

A reminder that I'm raising $4k to support @scarleteen.com's staff and volunteer health fund to ensure that sex educators doing some of the BEST sex ed around are able to access health care. In an era of misinfo where most kids don't even get the most basic in school, Scarleteen is critical.

Over on @scarleteen.com , I wrote up an essay I've always wanted to read and that is more essential than ever with the US government's anti-autism BS. Autistic people: we are enough. I delved into this reality in this essay, plz share and read if you can! :)

Hey, Autistic People: You're Enough
You exist and that’s a good thing. I wish I’d been told that earlier, because it’s the truth for all of us, in as well as outside the autistic community.

Oh wow..this is such a blast from the past I’m getting nostalgic. I remember accessing Scarleteen in my teenage years in the early days of the web and they had some of the best advice and sex ed for an Indian teenager who didn’t really get it from anywhere else. Do donate if you’re able!
Sex ed is a notoriously underpaid field. Many sex educators work multiple jobs and don’t have access to employee health benefits. We're raising $40,000 to provide healthcare for our staff and volunteers so we can focus on what we do best: Supporting young people. www.classy.org/campaign/scarl...

Loraine was a real one, and this is such a loss. I treasure my interactions with her. 💔
Personal Me: Dammit, if 2025 wasn’t already fired, the death toll alone would do it. Bi activist Loraine Hutchins has left us. RIP. I still treasure my signed copy of BI ANY OTHER NAME, the ground-breaking anthology from Alyson Press that she co-edited w/ Lani Ka’ahumanu. 😢

Don’t even get me started on the cultural and personal implications of slogans like, “AI girls never say no.”
Generative AI causes so many demonstrable harms, from counseling kids into suicide, stealing creative work and destroying the market for it, perverting education, and this predictable horror. Any other product like this would be regulated into the smallest possible box by a responsible society.
This is one of the worst, most horrifying exposures we have ever seen. It is hard to overstate how bad the things that people are using tools like for are, and it's insane to pretend like these tools are anything other than nonconsensual porn machines
