I also learned recently that not only can you force bluesky to make you do alt text, but its like 2 or 3 button clicks. Piss easy. I know cuz i enabled it so i cant poast unless i put fucking something there but point is, its there and its easy if you actually want to do it but most people dont?!

I am chaos at various times - but this is a very easy thing to do. And also fun if you’re putting a cute or funny picture. Add a bit of extra chat! Catchy poster type stuff - often AWFUL to read for people with visual impairment and should also have alt text anyway.
I see people saying

“I would use alt text but I keep forgetting!”

Thankfully, @bsky.app has a setting for that.

- Go to Settings
- Then Accessibility
- Toggle “Require alt text before posting” to the active setting.

Now Bluesky will remind you to add alt text to all of your posts.

For the love of badger!
A thread, which I am calling 'Why British Badgers Are Fucking Brilliant'.

1. They are always in a good mood and absolutely love to surprise you by arriving at your window with a big infectious smile on their face. bsky.app/profile/dj-a...
"No, no, you don't get it. I am HUGELY aware there are already lots of books about badgers, but this isn't a book about just any old badgers; it's far more specific."

It is impossible to properly calculate the depth and breadth of the courage and sacrifice of those prepared to confront white supremacy and assert their right to full citizenship.

We - and by that I mean ALL Americans - owe them a great debt. Rest in Peace & Power Claudette Colvin.
"I knew then and I know now, when it comes to justice, there is no easy way to get it. You can't sugarcoat it. You have to take a stand and say, 'This is not right.' And I did."

Rest in power, Ms. Claudette Colvin.

The fight for equality continues.

Recent history. I’m so UK and US focused that there is A LOT I’ve either missed or have let wash over. So appreciating the comments. Frantic googling about to happen.

My anger at having to stand outside my kid’s school for two hours to ensure none of their classmates, parents, or teachers get kidnapped by my own government is only slightly tempered by the amazing outpouring of support from other parents and especially neighbors who stand against this bullshit.

Not in the US but think this a heartening message for all people resisting. And take care all you US folks doing this as best you can. What is happening for good or ill is not unnoticed. Major UK outlets reporting. Solidarity.
They don't have capacity to terrorize more than 2-3 cities at a time.

Which means they rotate teams to new cities without relief.

Which means consistent resistance by fresh activists in each new city will break them over time.

Which means if you're city's not occupied, rest up and get ready.

Ashamed to say I’m only just listening to Doppelgänger by Naomi Klein. It is GREAT. But also I’m glad the pandemic is a bit further behind us, as it made me a bit crazy in the healthcare world!

Sometimes you may have told a small lie about needing to be home on NYE because of cats and fireworks. But really you are just not having to endure NYE and then just potter around while the cats do not fret about the fireworks at all. It is approaching Battle of the Somme levels here.

In Oklahoma, women receive two pairs of white underwear. If they're lucky enough to have friends or family members, they can purchase five additional pairs. For periods, the state issues 15 pads and just 10 tampons per month (five regular and five super). Here's what periods are like in prison.

@merrymacsanctuary.bsky.social do amazing stuff looking after all the animals. Do help if you can. Also - goats are amazing! Resilient and occasionally judgmental. Wise faces.
This is Fluffy. She came to us after her owners passed away and nobody took care of the goats they left behind. One by one all of the goats passed away until only Fluffy was left. Fortunately someone from the town finally noticed she was there and started bringing her food and water. 🧵

I’m not in the US - but maybe you are and know someone who knows someone who knows someone. My 2 rescue cats have been the most delightful house mates.
It’s hard to believe but the Auto Club family— mama Porsche & her now 7-month old kittens Ferrari, Mercedes, and Bentley— have had no applications. Not one for any of them. There’s a kitten rescuer whose videos I love, but she’s clearly been rescuing kittens for so long that she’s run out of cute names

Every new video has the cutest kittens you ever seen, with a caption like, “Meet the Roofing Materials kittens: Tar Paper, Shingles, and Fiberglass!”

This is beautiful piece of journalism, despite all the sadness and aspects of inhumanity it also conveys
