I can't understand where people got the idea that having access to fictional pedophilic material somehow makes pedophiles safer for the public.

Have you ever met someone with a fetish? The more they engage with fictional images of their fetish, the more they want to do that shit in real life.

Some historians posit that similarities between languages with Twitteric, Tumbleric, and Redditish origins and vague references in the literature imply the existence of a now-extinct proto-Internet language developed in a location or locations called “forums”

The point is that comparing Canada to the U.S. and it "better" is a trap and it leaves a lot of people screwed over.

I've witnessed so many arguments on social media where Disabled Canadians tell other Canadians about shitty things in Canada and the response is "but we're better than the U.S.!"

As a USian who was lucky enough to have never bought into the lies we tell ourselves about what the US stands for, I'm also grossed out by the lies Canadians are telling themselves about what Canada stands for.

In the face of actual reality.

"Better than the US" is far too low a bar.

"Horseshoe Theory" is the theory that horses need shoes. It's controversial because most animals don't wear shoes.

In 1930, linguist JR Firth coined the term “phonoaesthetics” to describe the study and appreciation of the sounds of words. Tolkien found “cellar door” to be impossibly lovely. Dennis Potter favored “elbow.”

Surely “roundly booed” deserves a place in the pantheon of most pleasing combinations.
Vice President JD Vance gets roundly booed at the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics. "Those are a lot of boos for him, whistling jeering," says the presenter. US athletes receive a warm welcome from fans, though.

I am certain that whenever someone posts about “gatekeeping art” or whatever, they’re talking about posting drawings online for clicks. They never mean arranging rocks in the back yard. They never mean whistling to yourself and finding a tune that makes you happy. They never mean napkin doodles.
