One of the hosts of Radio Free Nintendo, a podcast about video games. Which is what I'm mostly here to talk about, but not exclusively.
I don't have expectations of you following back if you're not overly involved in video games!

Part of this week’s newsletter was inspired by the post below. Was there a way to show the distance between normal Americans and the super wealthy?

The Running Man was very enjoyable. Not much more to say about it. See it if you like King, Wright or Powell I guess.

I remember this embarrassing column by IGN's Nintendo-editor-turned-editor-at-large fawning over Uncharted 2's hollywood-ness. I wonder if he's happy now.

Sometimes I think EGM did fatal damage to Metroid by declaring Super Metroid Best Game of All Time in 2003. It calcified its status as the ideal all other Metroid games are judged. Deviations from the formula are a sin.
IGN's Beyond preview talks about it having crossed "a sacred line".
I fully agree the franchise should die if no one at Nintendo really cares to make a new one, but I can't say that's the case here and that Beyond has nothing to offer.
I let go of being a Metroid purist some years after Hunters. The franchise can't just be a string of remixed Super Metroids.

After 18 years, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a surprisingly magical return to Nintendo’s legendary series, and I’m all in on psychic abilities and the power of friendship

Is there really no supercut of Joe Pesci's scenes in Lethal Weapon 3 that I can play on a loop while playing playing Metroid Prime Remastered?
I want to get a feel for what Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is like.

Don’t want to alarm anyone, but @davidwain.bsky.social ‘s The Ten Commandments is on Tubi in Canada.
I’ve never seen it beyond the first half of the cat scan machine scene.

If UbiSoft puts themselves up for sale, their potential buyers would be wise to wait at least two months before purchasing so they can buy the company at 50% off.
Ubisoft just postponed its earnings report and halted the trading of its shares. Unclear why at this point but could indicate a major announcement related to the company.

About to return DK Bananza to the library and I'm not sure what it is about EDP Tokyo's free camera platformers but just like Mario Odyssey, this game fails to give me that dopamine hit.
There's either not enough friction getting most bananas, or a kind of irritating challenge that I don't enjoy.

James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Collision on the first day of snow at my very accident-prone street corner. Pickup truck (now long gone after exchanging info) hit this guy who’s been stuck here for an hour.
Tow truck finally arrived as I was posting.

I'm performatively liminal, which means I'm standing on a cliff going "OOOOH MAYBE I'LL JUMP, MAYBE I'M A REPRESENTATION OF CROSSING A THRESHOLD THAT CANNOT BE UNCROSSED, OOOOOOH"
Has “performative” become the new “liminal” in that it’s a term that is very useful but its misuse on social media is rendering it difficult to use

Longlegs is just a collection of iconic scenes from classic thrillers in a movie that makes no effort to earn them, eh?

Cure - Took me some time after the credits to process. What a bleak movie.
CGS2 - These movies are fun. Frenetic action, great practical effects. I need to watch more Jacky Cheung movies.
The Wailing - I feel I'm missing the point of this one. Heavy Rain-ass twist.

Because SE's QA people are probably not in a position to defend themselves and their jobs in public, I want to spell out some of what it is they specifically do for us localizers, because nothing I've written here is rhetorical. SE QA acts as a final check on our work after translation and editing.
You don't need me to tell you this is yet more good money being burned after bad. But as someone who's worked with that QA team, I'll say they're unsung heroes who truly play a huge role in maintaining SE's reputation for high quality locs and to attempt to replace them with AI is deeply insulting.
Square Enix wants 70% of its QA work to be handled by generative AI by the end of 2027, in partnership with the University of Tokyo's Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory. https://bit.ly/4qKdyQR
