A reminder today and every day that if someone posts about politics like they're being paid to -- especially if they post like they're being paid to entrap you into saying something illegal -- block them. Either they're being paid to entrap you or they're too stupid to know how to get paid for it.

With winter in full swing in the Northern Hemisphere, Australia really stands out as exceptionally hot looking at the forecast temperatures across the world. Possible record-breaking heat tomorrow in the southeast. www.bom.gov.au/australia/ch...

Once again, I ask you that if you are sharing images in your post, particularly those involving news & activism, you include alt text so that your message is accessible to everyone. Disabled people are among the targets of this administration & there is no inclusivity without including them.

It's kinda weird how Australian media sees white nationalist rallies and calls them "anti-immigration", but it's also a reflection of the degraded nature of media and public discourse & no small reason for its parlous state.

stop using AI to do your research. it hallucinates too often. if you want an answer to something, post something arrogant on the appropriate subreddit. something like: "this item performs 10% better than everything else. only idiots deny this." this will bait nerds into doing your research for you.

This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
The absolute MINIMUM we can do is not have our country's celebration on their day of mourning.
I will never celebrate until the date is changed. I'm not well enough to protest, so I will spend today writing to politicians.

For those who don't know, today is "Australia Day". A day of mourning for our Indigenous population as it marks the date of invasion of this country.
Our government refuses to change the date, despite the fact that it's only recently been held on this day and has previously had many different dates

You could actually structure your moral code around the idea that law enforcement doesn't exist to execute people. You don't have to create perfect victim narratives, you can just refuse to accept that the state gets to kill people.

Now feels like a good time to remind everyone that evidence suggests that playing some Tetris — and probably lots of other colorful games, but definitely Tetris — is helpful for a mind that is processing traumatic events. You need to take care of your mind to be effective. We need all of us.

I deleted TikTok back when the Oracle purchase was announced but if you've still got it, you GOTTA dump it. Especially for trans folks. It straight up says in the new TOS that they--Oracle, the company that has active ties to the Trump admin--are monitoring and documenting trans and NB users.

I do believe that international courts should decide a fate for the current administration that aligns with an impartial sense of fairness and justice. Except for JD Vance. Who i think should be a sideshow freak in a pig cage you can beam with apples for 25¢ a toss. Loud shrieking. Welted. Nude.

Over several decades, the WHO has played a huge role in bringing countries together to reduce death and disease at an unprecedented scale.

It is by no means a perfect organization, but we can only improve it by continuing to participate. Withdrawal is reckless and makes us all more vulnerable.

The United States has officially withdrawn from the World Health Organization.

This is a shameful move that puts both Americans and people all over the world at greater risk from disease outbreaks, which require international collaboration to contain.

This is a fantastic article with a lot of simple explanations in it of everyday counterintuitive bullshit, just as you’d expect from Cory Doctorow.

Yeah AI is a bubble. But what sort of bubble? Who puffed it up? And what do we do?
