Two years after the Miramar Peninsula was declared predator-free, native birds continue to increase. In the often-demoralising world of conservation monitoring, that’s a big win.
‘A really good day at the office’: Predator-free Miramar bird recovery still soaring

In a way it's kind of funny that the govt thinks it's ok to just, immediately after local body elections, announce that the regional govts we voted for are for the chop, and the people we elected as city and district mayors are going to have different jobs to the one we just voted them into.

Really wish I had gotten a better shot of this but holding a phone that says “who else was just ‘following orders’?” up to a riot cop is hard as hell

Googles propensity to turn everything off in the background requires.... more management than I really want to give my phone.

Turns out I haven't had photo backups on my phone for the last 2 months.

There are now 238 Kakapo in the world and there will be a breeding season this year.
A city-wide trapping programme here in Wellington has seen an explosion in native bird populations in the last decade. I'd lived for 40 odd years without seeing a kaka in the wild, now I see and hear them most days.
Please give me an unironic list of things that have gotten better over the last ten years because I’m spiraling.

I’ll start: you can buy an enormous TV from Costco for like $100 bucks now.

I'm old enough to remember when a Labour MP was hounded out of office after not declaring a few thou worth of shares.

This seems... much worse. So I assume action will be swift and decisive. #nzpol
