A lot of the cuts in NSF funding were predictable (and awful), but one thing that stands out is cutting SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) by 57%.

This program supports small businesses and entrepreneurs at turning laboratory discoveries into cutting-edge marketable products.

This innovative solution has already protected 13.3 million people from dengue.

It involves introducing the Wolbachia bacteria into mosquito populations to prevent them from transmitting viruses to humans.

We’ve supported this ground-breaking initiative since 2014 ⤵️

One thing that made the US a powerhouse in the 20th century were networks of government support for education & research in all the regions of the country

There was this idea that people across our country deserved access to the best knowledge & services we could provide with our pooled resources
we just lost all 7 of our Network of National Library of Medicine, Region 5 (NNLM) library workers.

the grant that covered their salaries was terminated.

this is heartbreaking and demoralizing.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

All so they can pay for tax cuts for their billionaire buddies.
