I'm taking the plunge and putting my fiction online after years of the cop in my head telling me that it ruins your chances of ever getting "really published." Fuck that shit!

Read my story for 3 bucks! That's cheap!

Haven't been promoting blog stuff much anywhere, but this one was relatively high-effort...I made custom portraits for an indie drpg and then had to watch my characters get smoked by demons nonstop <a href="https://ponti.club/path-of-the-abyss/" class="hover:underline text-blue-600 dark:text-sky-400 no-card-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-link="bsky">https://ponti.club/path-of-the-abyss/
Path of the Abyss
One of the first things that stood out to me about was the list of character portraits with its dozen placeholder entries. Which could only mean you can...

A model of how to read a publishing contract...and how to make a heartbreaking decision.
On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Holy shit, just learned about the typewriter art of Montserrat Alberich Escardívol, a Catalan typist. Using an extra wide typewriter and 180 color ribbons, she built up elaborate images from simple characters like 'm' and '.' and ';'. Here is her typewritten painting of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

Brushing my hair, which was so gay my friend genuinely nearly hurt himself because he fell trying to get away from me so quickly

(I had just finished a bout in fencing, to set the scene a little)
Good morning Bluesky. What's the most ridiculous thing that you've been told is "gay"? Or at least "gay when a man does it"?

I'll start: birthday parties.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

This was one of the all-time bangers of deep dive journalism from Waypoint. I was a part of Sierra fandom and closely followed these developments as they happened, and it's unreal to see it retold but with all of the wild, crazy financial business shit laid bare.

Rediscovered this electric article from 2020 by the great @duncanfyfe.net about the death of Sierra, a studio that was so so important to my childhood.
How Sierra Was Captured, Then Killed, by a Massive Accounting Fraud
Sierra was one of the biggest game publishers of the 90s. Then they got an offer that was way too good to be true, but too good to decline.
