WOW Jazzpunk turns 12 today!!! soon it will be old enough to drive, and then vote

Gonna dig around in my archives and see if I can release some more behind-the-scenes commentary to celebrate the anniversary.

Heres some vehicles I designed for an Information Super Highway portion, which got edited

fun totally real fact: the Nintendo 64 had only 4 Bytes of texture memory

which is why all the games looked like this

Been thinking about how the PS5 gen is the most "nothing" console gen Ive experienced yet. Dozens of self-similar games, very few standouts, nothing compelling in the AAA space

I still think its a tool problem. The ps5 is x50 times more powerful, but you have to work 50 times harder to utilize it

Valve has the money to subsidize the steam machine, and my assumption is that's what they'll do. console makers have traditionally sold consoles at a loss in order to secure market/living room dominance

my hope is that valve does the "right thing" and still releases the GabeCube at a good price
Valve’s Steam Machine has been delayed, and the RAM crisis will impact pricing. Valve is now aiming to launch its Steam Machine in the first half of 2026, rather than early 2026. How much will it cost, though? www.theverge.com/games/874196...

You’ll have to wait a little longer for Valve’s new hardware.

I dont want digital scanline generators, I want to use every pixel in a 4K flatscreen to mimic the screenmask of a Trinitron, and then I want a phosphor bloom shader applied at just the right level to make the picture appear cohesive, like a CRT

We should develop a system where if anyone's bank account reaches a Billion Dollars, their Logan's Run crystal starts flashing. they are swiftly "Retired" — their funds are disseminated into the populace

this should encourage any wealthy person to constantly divest their cash rather than hoard it

We gotta come up with a better system than “everything rests on whether these twelve billionnaires are nice”

It feels like Stephen Colbert somehow Parodied this guy into existence

15 years ago this was the stuff of satire. he's a haircut, tie and glasses masquerading as a person
Mike Johnson speaks out against the use of judicial warrants in immigration cases:

"Imagine if we had to go through the process of getting a judicial warrant"

Do every animator you follow a favor and dont reply with that list of Adobe alternatives in their rightfully distressed posts about losing the core of their workflow

you are not helping

They know already. That is not the problem.

Now you too can play a slowed down version of a game from 20 years ago with no actual level design or enemies and all it costs is a complete collapse of the world economy, biosphere, education system, and multiple entire creative industries.
Project Genie is an an experimental research prototype that Google gave @jaypeters.net access to this week, though he may not be using it in exactly the way Google intended.

Here's Jay's version of something like Super Mario 64:

knowing how the story has progressed for Satoshi Kon (RIP) and Aronofsky (pro-AI, rich) , this is a very sad thing to reflect on
Satoshi Kon talks about how Requiem for a Dream took from his film Perfect Blue (1997)

people are making this crap in Genie 3, calling it "a flawless recreation of going to a Blockbuster in the 90s"

Aside from the myriad of flaws I see here, its also like... if you can't get the details correct then you're not representing the era with any respect or nuance. literally Meaningless

I never met Catherine O'Hara but oddly I did perform live once with her sister, Mary Margret O'Hara back around 2012. it was for a live improvised electro acoustic thing, held in a library of all places

CO'H was a pillar of Canadian Comedy — we were all lucky to have her. Beetlejuice was formative

if you can't sit through a 2 hour movie, you dont deserve to be anywhere near the medium of film making

flunk em all, film doesn't need weak distracted people generating slop films

Im so glad Im not currently burdened with trying to make a satire, parody, or science fiction... everything is moving at hyperspeed, becomes obsolete in 6 months

In the way you can't really make fun of a clown, I have no idea how you satirize a world that itself feels like someones bad screenplay
