What I'll never understand abt "moderate" Dem enthusiasm for risking it all to do a deal w Republicans is that the regime has ALREADY SHOWN that they will act in defiance of existing civil rights & appropriations laws. Why on earth would you expect them to comply with the stipulations of any deal?

I will not be watching or reading any "analyses" about the Democratic party in D.C. I know all about them & their complicity. I'm not interested and I choose to reclaim my time and attention.
There're other kinds of politics to engage & most importantly to do (including in our local communities).

People need to understand that Chicago is a preview, not a culmination.
I have been actively watching contracts and surge funding over the last few days and what I would say to my friends in Baltimore is “be absolutely ready, right now.”

Because Schumer is a DINO fascist
SCOOP: Schumer was more involved than reported with the attempted cave on the government shutdown. The Gang of 8 Senate Dems had his approval & he was getting daily updates.
In Thursday's caucus meeting, the Gang claimed they had 10 votes to cave. The caucus went nuts, leading to the new proposal.

Identifying flaws in GenAI unfortunately offers a pretext for claims that perfecting the product is just a matter of time & money. So pointing to chatbots’ role in,say, suicides can only go so far if we don’t also identify the systemic, irresolvable lack of Gen AI’s human commitment bc math has none

One of my old PIs told me how surreal it was to her that people saw Barres at a conference (after transition) and would say things like "He's such a better speaker than his sister" and just be completely oblivious.
We're disappointed to see Ben Barres's powerful book "The Autobiography of a Transgender Scientist" among the ~400 titles removed from the Naval Academy Library. Needless to say, we're proud to have published his book and will keep it — and his memory — alive.

I think I have 2 main concerns at this time wrt KBJ's SNAP order
1) I'm skeptical that the presumed procedural strategy will achieve meaningful benefits
2) While it says "hurry up" to the First Circuit, it says nothing to the people affected by this unprecedented loss

This is a really good thread which gets into some of the tricky questions that groups involved in ICE watch / rapid response in Chicago are facing as a large number of people, many new to movement work, get activated in the context of a fascist surveillance state.
The internet is full of resources for individuals (both on their own & within groups) especially around digital security so I’ll won’t start there but one of the things I’ve learned is that how the work gets shared externally / publicly, if at all, is a key starting point for org opsec & trust bldg.
Many more things to share about useful opsec (and just basic trust-building principles that, yes, can be even when things are urgent) that fall somewhere between “we never considered security was needed” and “everyone you don’t know is a fed” but alas I have deadlines (the true enemy).
