This might sound paranoid, and it’s still hypothetical. It’s a truism someone is always watching on the internet, but the worst thing that comes of it for many people is some unwanted targeted ads. Right now in the US, though, we’re watching the impending collision of two alarming trends. In one, tech executives are encouraging people to reveal ever more intimate details to AI tools, soliciting things users wouldn’t put on social media and may not even tell their closest friends. In the other, the government is obsessed with obtaining a nearly unprecedented level of surveillance and control over residents’ minds: their gender identities, their possible neurodivergence, their opinions on racism and genocide.

This is premised on so many flawed assumptions including that:

1.) sign languages are wild human gesticulations as opposed to fully developed languages

2.) sign languages and close captions are mutually intelligible

3.) there couldn’t possibly be Deaf individuals at the actual press conference

Earlier this year, our government invested $1.3 billion to stabilize the sector — the single biggest investment increase in over a decade." From the article: But overall, Ontario's universities receive the lowest per-student funding in the country. A report by the Ford government's own blue-ribbon expert panel, released a year ago, recommended an immediate 10 per cent increase in base funding, as well as allowing schools to raise tuition by five per cent. The government cut tuition by 10 per cent in 2019, and has frozen it since. Colleges and universities had expected some $2.5 billion over three years based on the panel recommendations; the province added about $1.3 billion. On Friday, the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance called the government's actions to date "disappointing."
