The News Agents is a great case study of centrism because they actively describe how the sausage is made and yet none of their audience say 'Wait - what the fuck do you mean you ran a story because some Labour spad told you to?'

The BBC is in crisis in the same way that GB News would be if you put Owen Jones on the board armed with a veto and plenty of coffee.

What's fascinating here is that as she rhymes off the list of gender critical people at Newsnight pursuing an explicitly gender critical agenda, in the context of a discussion of ideological capture at the BBC, she doesn't recognise that she was part of the ideological capture of the BBC by GCs.

Hi guys, I've decided as everyone else has to start a substack. Here's my first article, on how the Maccabi Tel Aviv fan furore lays bare the pretence at the heart of British politics. Feel free to subscribe, I'm going to try write at least 2 articles a month.

2025 is just watching people doing things that you know are wrong, they know are wrong, everyone knows are wrong - but there is simply no political representation and are no institutions to prevent or even oppose it.

We might ask why, when it was very obvious a tiny clique of poisonous, truthless psychos had seized control via bullshit, shenanigans and stitch-ups, the entire British press spent five years loudly squealing that this was an insane conspiracy theory believed only by dangerously crazed people.

We reap what we sow
I am hearing there’s a political campaign against the BBC by cynical liars and frauds who don’t care what’s real and only want to destroy it, and I can say: LOL too bad lads, you could not possibly more deserve to get wrecked by the wingnuts and cranks you were once so happy to promote.

What you're seeing here is a political tendency whose only appreciable skill was wrecking their own side, detonating upon contact with power and wrecking their own ability to actually do anything other than tell people to fuck off.
This is what they’ll tell themselves alright, because it’ll be more convenient than admitting that they’ve fucked it by relentlessly attacking their own supporters until there’s nobody left who likes them or wants what they’re selling.

Regular folk might notice that we have smashed the postwar settlement trying to appease these people, laid waste to the public realm, made much of the country unlivably expensive for many people, all to try to make these cranks happy. But they’ll never be happy, as long as we exist and speak.

is it better for countries to invest in boring things like transport and energy infrastructure or should they invest all their money in useless chatbots that talk in reddit-voice on the vague and completely unsubstantiated hope that they'll be able to do something profitable one day

Well, it does seem like a lot of people at the Telegraph would’ve preferred it if the other side had won.

When you got rid of the *actual* Labour party it was only the right wing press who cheered you on, and now you’ve served their purpose. We’ve already got two right wing parties, you fools.
Why aren't Labour's life-changing policies connecting with voters - and what can the party do? It's down to messaging, how it's told, and the messengers...
Why don’t Labour’s workers’ and renters’ rights reforms cut through to voters – and how should they? – LabourList
When millions of workers and renters don’t know you’re doing more to improve their rights than any government in half a century, something is going…

I hate that we're supposed to trudge through year after year after year acting like we don't already know the most effective solutions to social problems because some people don't like it. We know the best way to treat homelessness, addiction, crime, poverty, hunger, and bigotry but won't do it.
