Is bloomberg.com taking advantage of people’s cookie disclaimer click through habit to get them to nominally agree to arbitration and class action waivers? Is this weird and sinister? Or have I just been watching too much of The Chair Company

First, Trump pardoned the violent insurrectionists who beat cops.

Now, he pardons the key instigators of January 6th.

We need to see this for what it is:

An attempt to erase history, so it can be repeated.

Memories of an Appalachian boyhood during the Jim Crow era probably feel like recollections of the Civil War, to many of you. But then they increasingly feel like that to me as well!

“If Trump cares about Christians or anyone else in Nigeria, all he needs to do is restore aid and let babies live,” our columnist Nicholas Kristof writes.
Opinion | Trump Aid Cuts Kill More Christians Than Jihadists Do
Murderous attacks on Christians and Muslims alike are a real problem in Nigeria. Cutting humanitarian assistance there is even more lethal.

The world needs honest and courageous entrepreneurs and communicators who care for the common good. We sometimes hear the saying: “Business is business!” In reality, it is not so. No one is absorbed by an organization to the point of becoming a mere cog or a simple function. 1/2

Painting LaGuardia as a fiscal conservative by citing his initial struggles upon taking over New York at the height of the Depression requires you to also paint the New Deal as fiscally conservative, eh? The New Deal was democratic socialism in full and LaGuardia embraced it. You're a pretzel here.
You'll hear this "Mamdani loves LaGuardia... and LaGuardia governed as a socialist" refrain a lot in the next few weeks, and it ain't true. LaGuardia governed as a New Dealer within the limits of city govt; his first step in office was to cut staff and salaries $ to bring NYs budget into balance. /1
In honor of last night's victory by a progressive, I offer this memory of the greatest big-city mayor in U.S. history, a man of the left who also governed as a socialist. If Mr. Mamdani goes on WNYC this Sunday and reads the funny papers to kids my heart will burst.

The U.S. has entered the time travel stage of its descent into fascism.
Attorney General Pam Bondi says she has retroactively appointed former Trump attorney Lindsey Halligan as a "special attorney" for DOJ and has "ratified" all of her actions to date, including her presentations to the grand juries that indicted Trump's foes.

🤣Oh no!

Someone must have clued Trump in to the fact that Venezuelan crude oil is higher quality than Saudi crude, but that Nigerian is even higher quality than Venezuelan.

And that Nigeria has the largest oil reserves in Africa. More than 3X more than Ukraine, Mexico, and Australia... combined

Here’s another way Trump’s “deal” with China was a disaster.

He negotiated away export controls that his own experts had said were critical to protecting our national security.

China got exactly what it wanted. So much for America First.

I love kids. I have two of them. They’re amazing. However, kids are the absolute least self aware, clumsiest little puffins on the planet.

Please don’t drive tonight unless you have to, and if you do drive, drive super slow and pay 100% attention at all times.

Happy Halloween! 🎃 👻 💀

call me crazy but i think inviting someone under federal indictment to an interview, peppering them with questions about the indictment that you know they can’t answer until you cause them to leave, then calling it a “Katie Porter moment” is not good journalism
I just had a Katie Porter moment with congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh. The interview lasted 3 minutes.

There’s nothing too crazy for these folks
The Heritage Foundation’s Bob Peters now recommends that if the US cannot develop the ability to conduct an underground nuclear test in Nevada within 3-6 months of an order to do so, it consider withdrawing from the 1962 Limited Test Ban Treaty and resuming open-air testing in Nevada or the Pacific.

Struggling to imagine the chutzpah it takes to say that someone "doesn't understand New York culture" because they're an immigrant.
So here's Andrew Cuomo reacting to Maria Bartiromo wondering if Mamdani will "change the look of New York" and have Muslim women "completely covered up," telling her that Mamdani "doesn't understand New York culture" because he has "dual citizenship" and "he's a citizen of Uganda."

But don't worry, I got you!

1.8% unsure.

49.9% favorable.
