There are striking differences (3-3.5cm) in height between the southern part of the Netherlands and the part ‘above the main rivers’ as we say. Catholic versus protestant part- one explanation: mixing with Spanish genes in south of the country when under Spanish occupation in 16-17th century…

Het kabinet trekt een wetsvoorstel voor het terugdringen van het gebruik van bestrijdingsmiddelen in. Het gaat om een wetsvoorstel dat oorspronkelijk bedoeld was om het particulier gebruik van bestrijdingsmiddelen buiten de landbouw te beperken.ppOp voorstel van de Partij voor de Dieren werden daaraan ook middelen in de landbouw toegevoegd. Een Kamermeerderheid stemde destijds in met dit plan, maar stelde de wetsbehandeling vervolgens uit.ppNu heeft staatsecretaris Chris Jansen van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat PVV besloten om de koning te vragen het wetsvoorstel in te trekken vanwege juridische en uitvoeringstechnische risicos.ph2Schandaligh2pVoor de Partij voor de Dieren is het een fikse tegenvaller. PvdDKamerlid Inez Kostic reageert verbolgen: Dit is schandalig en gaat zwaar tegen de maatschappelijke trend in, die vraagt om een betere bescherming voor mensen.ppVan coalitiepartijen krijgt de staatsecretaris juist steun. De VVD, die zich altijd al verzette tegen te wet, noemt het terugdraaien heel verstandig. Kamerlid Thom van Campen zegt dat de wet de landbouw op een onwerkbare manier de duimschroeven zou aandraaien.ppHarm Holman van NSC noemt de wet te vergaand, hoewel zijn partijleider Omtzigt destijds wel voor de aanscherping stemde. De PVV heeft nog niet laten wat ze van het intrekken vindt.ph2Heel moeilijkh2pIn het voorstel van de Partij voor de Dieren stond ook hoe ver het gebruik van bestrijdingsmiddelen in 2025 en 2030 verminderd moest worden. Nadat de Kamer het voorstel had aangenomen, vroeg ze zelf om een onderzoek naar de gevolgen.ppDe Wageningen Universiteit concludeerde dat er voor veel plantensoorten alternatieven zijn zoals een andere manier van spuiten, nietchemische alternatieven en in sommige gevallen minder schadelijke chemische alternatieven. Wel zou dat telers geld kosten, vooral bij het omschakelen.ppVoor specifieke teeltsoorten zoals chrysanten zou het wel heel moeilijk worden. Daar zouden dan bijvoorbeeld weerbare varianten voor ontwikkeld moeten worden.ppVoor 2030 zou het nog lastiger worden, omdat dan gewasbeschermingsmiddelen bijna uitgebannen zouden moeten zijn. Dat zou leiden tot flinke onzekerheid voor de sector, waarbij de vraag was of er nog wel genoeg manieren zouden overblijven om plagen te bestrijden.ph2Terugdraaienh2pHet vorige kabinet probeerde de wijziging van de Partij voor de Dieren al terug te draaien. Het nieuwe kabinet wilde dat ook, maar de Kamer stond het niet toe. Jansen kiest er nu voor om het wetsvoorstel helemaal in te trekken.ppHet ministerie laat weten dat de staatsecretaris zal onderzoeken hoe de doelen van het oorspronkelijke wetsvoorstel, zonder de wijziging van de PvdD, nog behaald kunnen worden.ppDe PvdD noemt de gang van zaken ondemocratisch, omdat het besluit van de Kamer uit 2022 zo alsnog wordt teruggedraaid. Kamerlid Kostic had liever gezien dat het kabinet de wet in stemming had laten komen, om hem daarna eventueel alsnog te wijzigen.p
