I didn’t mean that tourism is the way to go. It was just one example. I would recommend doing a diversification opportunity analysis, as the situation differs greatly between localities. Happy to talk about that.

Perhaps this paper is of interest - Struggles and Strategies of Rural Regions in the Age of the Urban Triumph. Paper explores which broad strategies can make rural economies more competitive by organising a higher level of agglomeration benefits in rural regions
