lol try this in aerospace and see how it works out

More seriously: Training someone to be a good aerospace software engineer only takes a few years and it pays huge dividends. It feels good to be good at what you do. Best part of the job for me.
Can't wait for the loosened up, non-perfect, but quickly shipped AI-enhanced updates to hit my banking and insurance services next year.

Im sure there will be no issues there at all.

Drivers in Seattle need to turn on their headlights when it’s dim and rainy. And use the left lane for passing, not for driving 55 in a 60.
Let’s air those grievances. I want to hear your pettiest gripes on this the holiest of days.

The Alpinist has consistently incredible longreads on our relationship to nature and culture; this is a great piece on mountaineering in the context of Leni Riefenstahnl and the weird Nazi fixation with the Alps.

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

I don't know, Aaron. I think we need to take this seriously. In fact, after surveying hundreds of years of history in the past few days, I've written an article assessing the originalist case here:

I feel like I’m going insane with the boat strike discourse. The strikes have been absurdly illegal from the start! Sure a double strike to kill survivors is even worse, but that’s the red line? And the initial strikes weren’t?

I’m glad at least that Congress is finally doing something.

turning a big dial taht says "mental Health" on it and constantly looking back at the parents of depressed children for approval like a contestant on the price is right
"It sounds like science fiction: A company turns a dial on a product used by hundreds of millions of people and inadvertently destabilizes some of their minds. But that is essentially what happened at OpenAI this year." [gift link]

Unsure why since all people are doing right now is standing on the sidewalk where they've been ordered to be.

Jay has done a ton of good writing on how the media’s default framing of politics is wrong (and harmful) which is why I respect him. And since I respect a lot of what you write too, I’ll respectfully ask you to reconsider this unfairly harsh take. You read a lot into a single skeet. Take a breath.

Schrier to RFK Jr: You gave Cassidy the answer he needed to hear in order to get his confirmation vote, then as soon as you were secretary you turned around & fired all 17 members. You lied. I also want to be clear that I will lay all responsibility for every vaccine-preventable death at your feet.

I’m at the Rep. Schrier town hall in Duvall. She is very concerned. She is talking to her “Republican friends” in congress who are also concerned. Nothing yet about how to actually fix things.
