Some part of my brain that is still a whiskey shooting college sophomore just perked up when I heard the TV announcer talking about a Packers player named Evan Williams.

The way my neighborhood is set up, the yards are hidden behind houses and open onto an alley. The man who walks his dogs down the alley every night and makes every dog on the block go nuts is my enemy. And PepperAnne's. The alley is for garbage cans and garage entrances.

Idk how I feel about folks encouraging amateur cooks to donate home cooked food to food pantries just from a food safety and sanitation standards perspective. (I donate a generous monthly amount to the food bank don’t come at me.)

Meal prep Monday. Got two Costco chickens, made chicken salad, made stock with the bones, made a soup with roasted butternut squash/canned tomatoes and chickpeas/frozen mirepoix and kale/and some leftover romesco sauce and brown rice and the stock.

Aaron calls this flavor "Stole Some Kids’ Halloween Candy." Kids and parents bring him their leftover (wrapped) Halloween candy—he gives them a free scoop of ice cream in payment—and he turns it into this masterpiece/monstrosity!
The Halloween candy ice cream is ready. There’s a gallon and a half of candy in each batch of ice cream.

Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.
Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.
One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.

Costco run mostly for proteins: check
Unloaded and got all cold stuff put away: check
next: break down the two rotisserie chickens I got, start some stock in the Instant Pot, take kids to dentist appointment.
I bought breakfast burritos at Costco to make up for not having time to make a batch today.

The thing to make it about was the lawless authoritarianism. Just like last week’s elections were.
They were never going to get ACA subsidies, which is part of why it was a mistake to insist this was only about ACA subsidies and nothing else.
Sincere question: does anybody have any evidence that the GOP/WH would have eventually folded and extended the ACA subsidies if the shutdown continued?
I haven’t seen any. The President didn’t seem to feeling any pressure. No GOP Senator AFAIK expressed any concern. (Some Reps did)

if you genuinely think Schumer and Democratic leadership opposed this & Republicans coincidentally got exactly the number of votes they needed to avoid a filibuster and none of those votes are from Democratic Senators who are up for reelection in the midterms next year, I have a bridge to sell you.

I’m a hard no on this “deal.”
I don’t take promises from Trump or Republicans in Congress anymore. I’m no fool.
My constituents deserve enforceable guarantees for their health care and our democracy.
Come back to me when you’re serious.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)
They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:
Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

CO: *is* anyone primarying Hickenlooper? I know he's been texting me for donations. Useless Bennet wants to be a useless governor and is def going to be hoping to appoint his own replacement (but that's why we gotta elect Phil Weiser for governor instead.)
4. John Hickenlooper. Squishy moderate from what is now a very blue state (CO). May have been involved behind the scenes. Primary.
5. Ben Ray Lujan. Usually pretty good, actually, I'd leave him alone.
6. Ed Markey. Generally a good Senator but too old. Please do not replace with Seth Moulton.
