I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte.

ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018.

We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:
“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:
North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.

The Joyce Carol Oates and “books written between 1890-1930 are so ALPHA” thing struck home because it showed how many elites nowadays lack the ability to be moved or find meaning in art beyond what we did watching John Wick and going fuck yea this rules and that explains why they believe in AI art

Administrators at Indiana University baselessly fired the student media director and ordered the student paper to cease its print edition, so it'd sure be a shame if this excellent digital front page were to be widely shared today

In 1945 the US Army said that a fascistic politician would also be an angry hyper-nationalist who tried to encourage his fellow Americans to reject ideas like "the brotherhood of man" and the importance of international cooperation as embodied in organizations like the UN. bsky.app/profile/seth...
The second fascistic tactic to look out for is anyone who tries to amp up nationalistic animosities toward other nations or peoples, framing attempts to foster international cooperation as forms of weakness. The idea that all humans share the earth as equals is anathema to fascists.

You don’t like Newsom.

You like the team that’s running his socials.
I don't mean to interrupt all the Newsom glazing I see on the TL today, but you really need to remember that this is the guy who launched his Podcast with Charlie Kirk, Newt Gingrich, Dr Phil, and Steve Bannon as some of his first guests...

Pre-Dementia Trump had enough of a filter to mask his racism and psychopathy at least a little bit. The CNBC anchor seems at a loss for this whole interview. He “weaves” (his term) between evil and nonsensical.
Trump on undocumented farm workers: "People that live in the inner city are not doing that work. They've tried, we've tried, everybody tried. They don't do it. These people do it naturally. Naturally ... they don't get a bad back, because if they get a bad back, they die."

Most types of business exhibit linear growth. But VC will only fund exponential growth.

The result: companies that would create a lot of jobs and actually maintain their products never get funded and never start. If you must hire more to make more product, that's unacceptable linear growth.
The 3 graphs miss one even more important point (hey, it's 3 graphs...) The VC hype cycle makes it even HARDER for real companies with real products because once you've got customers who pay money for stuff that costs money to produce, you're grounded in reality and those numbers never look as good.

I’ve been using this in place of Google and DuckDuckGo. It strips the AI search results and gives you relevant web links like days of yore. This links to the *actual creators* of the info you need, instead of siphoning off the revenue to Google.

How is it even possible to cut taxes for billionaires? Billionaires don’t pay taxes. They use their stock as collateral and borrow money at 2% interest to rent Venice for the wedding. Do you think Bezos files a W2? Social Security tax is capped at like $150k and again, they have no “income.”

My favorite reply to this DOGE recruiter:
“How ‘DOGE orthogonal’ is it? Like, does it still require Kremlin oversight?” another person said in a comment that received five reactions with a fire emoji. “Or do they just use your credentials to log in later?” www.wired.com/story/doge-r...
