#hfxws many of the Halifax common pathways are ice and snow covered. Ditto for the South Park bike lane.
The westbound Donham diverter (Harvard & Allan) is partially blocked by a mass of frozen leaves and slush.

I had a package held at a courier outlet this week rather than delivered to my home, knowing I would pick it up by bike. I chose the outlet (in Fairview) that is a half kilometre farther from my home instead of the closer one (in Central Halifax), and here's why #BikeHfx:

#hfxws: I did errands by bike in Fairview, the west end, Quinpool-ish, & the Commons/Nora Bernard St.
Roads, sidewalks, & #bikehfx lanes (DVR) are clear. Some trouble spots have been well salted (e.g. Quinn to Armcrescent path). But the CN bridge on Bayers Rd has an icy leaf-encrusted section.

#hfxws report from a brief evening bike ride and errand at the Halifax Shopping Centre Annex. The wet patches on the roads & sidewalks are black ice and the wind gusts are strong. I didn’t see road salt on the municipal roads & sidewalks that I used, but the HSC Annex property is well salted.

I was just thinking today that 2025 has been the year that I hit burnout. In 2020 I really saw a potential for equity. I threw all my energy & abilities into trying to support change only to watch people not just settle for "normalcy" but accept worse conditions & treatment than in 2019.
COVID really opened my eyes.
We had two paths ahead of us, and as soon as we took a single step towards THINKING about an equitable world, the rich put their full force into stopping it.
They loath humanity.

It is very slippery on untreated surfaces out there, folks. Take your time when moving by all modes.
Pedestrians may have a hard time crossing roads. I just made it down the hill to the waterfront on foot, but barely!

Victoria‘s bike and roll lanes make our family’s life better. Our kids don’t know what it means to be stuck in traffic or sit in the back of a car to go everywhere. They know our neighborhood geography and basic wayfinding and will be able to be much more independent as they get older. It’s the best

It's a wind-chilly day for a ride out there #BikeHfx. But nothing warms my heart quite like riding uphill on the Bayers Rd MUP passing 4 lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic.
Given the proximity to the shopping centre, I suspect these heart warming vibes will be available all week. I highly recommend!

#hfxws #BikeHfx report from the west end to waterfront. Allan-Oak bikeway surface is full of downed branches from the wind. South common central pathway is obstructed by downed temp fencing from the playground site. Bell Rd & South Park were relatively clear. Morris St has branches & vinyl siding.
