I guess my Bluesky typos will also keep me humble
so what ill-advised CBC Cross Country Checkup topic will be foisted upon us this time?

anyway, no one saves themselves by refusing to condemn illegal military aggression. playing nice doesn't result in preferential treatment.

IMHO people haven't got their heads around this fast enough. The United States is an enemy.
nobody can depend on the US for shit, and everybody's got to get their head around that real fast.
Every reputable expert I know considers mRNA vaccine technology to be one of the most revolutionary advances in medicine in our lifetimes. Its inventors won the Nobel Prize in 2023. Shutting it down now is pointless self-harm to humanity.

There are many, many people still viewing world events like today's through an ideological prism, as if the Trump regime has coherent or principled worldviews.

The sane among us realize Trump could just as easily "capture" the Canadian Prime Minister next month, on a whim.

Palestine is a test. Venezuela is a test. And everytime the world says nothing or does nothing it's permission to take similar actions again anywhere else.

anyway, I'll be pleasantly surprised if Canada has any European allies because historically the interest in the border was mostly about resource extraction.
A few 19th-century cartoons about US-Canada border issues, presented for no particular reason 🙄

For over 200 yrs there's been talk of annexation or "liberation," while many Indigenous Nations recognize that the imposed colonial borders never made much sense anyhow 🧵

I thought this was going to all transpire in Trump's first term, but then the pandemic happened, which both disrupted the plan & created the conditions for an eventual second term. They're not wasting any time in these extra 4 years.

Trump's regime has murdered people in the water. He has seized ships on the high seas. He has invaded a country and kidnapped their leader.
All bets are off with the United States.
Canada needs to build alliances with Europe and to be ready on the home front.

The closest comparison for the Grok thing we can imagine right now is if cereal made a bunch of people ill and the news put a microphone in front of some cereal boxes at the grocery store and was like “well they didn’t admit guilt, not sure who else we can ask”

you wouldn't be able to write this because you'd be told it's too far-fetched.
How extreme is Jim O’Neill, Deputy Health Secretary who just froze federal childcare funding to every state based on a viral video?

As a leader of the Seasteading Institute, he praised selling human organs on the free market b/c “There are plenty of healthy spare kidneys walking around, unused” 1/2

It would be nice if Canadian journalists started asking our politicians why they continue to use X despite all of the CSAM and fascism, but a lot of Canadian journalists still use it, too.

Do we think the Halifax mayor's end-of-year reel featuring the NS Minister of Ed in his boxers was created by AI? After all, we know gen AI doesn't worry about consent.

Settler colonialism has often positioned white settlers as both victim and victor. It's a weird contradiction, but a good example is all the captivity narratives created to strip Indigenous people of their humanity by depicting them as violent aggressors.

Or to other congregate spaces. One meaningful way we could be investing in a healthy population is improved indoor air quality in schools, long-term care homes, apartment buidlings, uni residences, correctional centres, etc.
Operating Rooms have always had a large number of air exchanges, up to 20 per hour. In fact when the HVAC goes down we have to wait an hour after it restarts. So ventilation has always been recognized as infection control so it’s a mystery why it hasn’t been applied to the whole hospital.

One of the ways I have tried to make my Bluesky experience better than my twitter experience was is by not reading people's posts/comments in the worst possible light.

If someone says "CSAM is bad" and your retort is "but revenge porn is ok?!"—that's twitter behavior and you should stop it.

In 2026, I'll still be #oneofthetwo because I rely on my health to work & I think everyone should be able to access public spaces as safely as possible.

I'm one of the three when I'm with my family & one of the seven with extended family. There are many people taking infection control seriously.
